What to Expect

The small, recently renovated terminal at Launceston Airport (code: LST) connects to several domestic destinations. Facilities include a shop, a few eateries, pay-to-use showers, and free WiFi. Economy class passengers flying Qantas Airlines can enter the Qantas Club with a membership. See Airport Lounges in the guide below for location and access information.

Sleeping in Launceston Airport

Spending the night here is not possible as the airport closes nightly from 10:30PM till 5:00AM. For uninterrupted sleep, hotels are nearby. See our Airport Hotels section below for more info or read some traveller airport reviews for more tips.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships

Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there is a lounge that you can enter through a lounge membership program. Visit the individual lounge page for more details about the lounge itself and to also find out how you can gain lounge access with just an economy class ticket!

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: Landside, in the departures and arrivals halls.

Disabled Services – The airport is equipped with a number of disability services, including lifts, wheelchairs, handicap parking and a special pickup/drop off zone. A full disability access facilitation plan is available through the airport website.

Drinking Fountains – Water fountains are available on the 1st and 2nd Floor.

Duty Free & Shopping – Duty Free is not available. The Launceston Store offers a variety of merchandise, including newspapers, travel goods, and local wines.

Family Services – Parent’s rooms are located Landside (Arrivals end of terminal) and Airside (near the gates). Rooms are equipped with baby change facilities, a chair and garbage disposal bin.

Food & Drink – Food concessions throughout the airport operate with varying schedules. At the time of this update, there are no 24-hour dining options. Food options include: Boags Upper Deck • Hudsons Coffee (landside and airside) • Wilderness Espresso. Vending machines are also available.

Luggage Carts – Need a hand with your bags? Carts are located outside the terminal at the arrivals and departures doors. Rates: $5.00 per cart with a $1.00 refund upon return.

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Luggage storage lockers are available. Location: on the forecourt, near the check-in hall. Rates: Small locker $3.00 / Medium locker $6.00 / Large locker $8.00. Payable by notes, coins or credit card.

Mobile Charging – There are multiple charging points. Locations: Airside, Main Terminal Level, Departure Waiting Area, right after security checkpoint • Airside, Main Terminal Level, in the Hudson Coffee Cafe • Airside, Main Terminal Level, in the Boags Upper Deck Bar & Restaurant.

Rest Zones – There are no dedicated sleeping areas, quiet areas or rest zones. If this information has changed, click here to update this guide.

Showers – If you need to freshen up, there is a coin-operated public shower facility. Location: Landside, adjacent to the check-in area. Towels and toiletries are not provided, so bring your own! Rates: $1.00 for every 3 minutes.

Smoking – Smoking is prohibited within and in front of the terminal. There is a designated smoking area in the southwest corner of the airport terminal.

Shuttle Bus

Shuttle Bus: The Airporter Launceston City Hotels Shuttle connects the airport with Launceston hotels and accommodation. The bus meets all departing and arriving flights. At the time of this update, the fare is $15 for one adult, each way.

Taxi

Taxis can be picked up outside the Arrivals hall. At the time of this update, the fare from the airport to Launceston is $35 to $38 each way.
