Lihue Airport Information

In this guide we may refer to locations as "landside" and "airside". Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.

More Services, Facilities & Things To Do On A Layover At The Airport

  • ATMs / Cash Machines - Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: main lobby and baggage claim area.
  • Disabled Services – The entire terminal is on a single level. Curbside loading and unloading zones are available, as are accessible parking spaces. Porter services are available on request, as are motorized wheel chairs. Text telephones are located in the central lobby and car rental area.
  • Food & Drink - Five dining options are available: A cafe, 2 full-service restaurants, a food kiosk (selling take away items) and a Starbucks. The Starbucks and the cafe are open as early as 5:30AM, and if you need a cocktail or bite to eat late at night, the Mea Inu Bar and Grill is open until 10:00PM.
  • Information Desk – Located at baggage claim and open from 6:30AM to 9:00PM daily.
  • Luggage Carts - Available to rent throughout the airport.
  • Luggage Storage & Lockers - Not available.
  • Postal Services – Drop off your last minute postcards at the airport's mailbox. Location: Landside, main lobby of the terminal.

  • Rest Zones - Not available.
  • Shopping - Options are a gift shop, newsstand, and flower / lei stand.
  • Showers - Not available.
  • Smoking Area – The airport is a non-smoking facility. All permitted smoking areas are located outside the terminal.

Airport Hours

The airport is open 24 hours.

Keep in mind that TSA, airline check-in and baggage drop hours vary according the flight schedule. Check these hours with your airline. If you are in the public area of the terminal (landside) you will not be able to get through to the secure area of the terminal (airside) until the morning.

Airport Transportation: Getting To/From The Airport


Lihue Airport is served daily by two bus routes, picking up and dropping off passengers at the median located in front of the airport terminal. For route maps, schedules and fares, visit the County of Kauai website.

If you are staying at the Marriott or the Hilton Kauai Beach Resort, check with your hotel as shuttle service may be included.

Car Rentals

Car rental services are available at the booths located across the street from the airport terminal baggage claim area. Onsite car rental agencies include Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and National.


Taxis are available curbside near the baggage claim area of the airport terminal. All taxis are metered, and reservations are not required. The following one-way fares were current at the time of this December 2017 update: Poipu $42- $52; Wailua-Waipouli $22- $27; Kauai Hilton $12; Lihue-Kukui Grove $9-$13; Princeville-Haena $88-$119.
