"We were a group of 5 people from Brazil, going to final destination in Guinea Bissau, for humanitarian aids. Dakar was our connection for the next flight.
We arrived in Dakar and remain in airport area for 18 hours. We do not had a senegalian visa, and we were obligated to stay inside the transit area.
If you do not have visa, you will depend for officials to take your baggages, because there is a line border (immigration) and the baggages are leaved beyond that line. You will depend for officials too for your next check-in. The airport do not have any structure. Is possible go to a "hotel", close the disembark area. But if you do not have a visa, the official will take you there and your passport will be retained with official, until your next check-in time, when it is restored to you. Its a regular procediment there. Don't worry. This "hotel" do not can be called this way. Is bad, and price high. But is a choice.
Returning to airport installations and staff.
There is no working phone in internal transit area.
Bathrooms are so bad. You need to clean yourself with just water, if you really need to use it. There is no hygienic paper.
If you do not speaks french, you are in a great problem, because english in not so understandable by officials.
They understand only what is for their own interests!
I consider this airport with a high level of corruption and intimidation.
I am very familiar with works in West Africa, and I am very sad to say that, if you have white skin the treatment is not the same.
By born, I am a latin, but there, you are white. Colonialist!
You do not have any rights there, as we know in Occidental law.
Arbitrariet are very common there.
You do not have anybody to fill a reclamation.
Unfortunately, you will be obligated to pay gratuities for any think you need to ask.
If you do not have choice, I strongly suggest you arrive in Senegal with a visa, if your country requires that, and go for a hotel outside airport, and return when your flight is close.
But, do not stay in this airport.
The environment of this airport do not reflects the average people of Senegal, but, inside the airport, you are a foreigner, and the rules are different !
Air Senegal is another history. Avoid this company always.
Sorry for the english."
