"Flew out of Ouaga in January using Air France. My hotel had a car drive me to the airport at 3p.m. to pre-check in my bags for an 11:30 departure that day. When I arrive, there was already a line-up of people with lots of check-in bags. Waited in line for 1.5 hours before Air France actually opened their counters. By that time, the line-up had overflowed outside the terminal. It took me another half hour to check in my bags (which was short as I was 10th in line). In all my travel experience, this is the first time I ever had to do an early check-in. Returned to airport at 8:30 p.m. for the 11:30 flight. It was packed with people who had not appeared earlier on in the day, but I was able to enter the departure gate with no problems.Security guards at the entrance to the terminal, then metal detector and passport check, and then immigration who really asked a lot of irrelevant questions, ie: what room did I stay in at the hotel??? Large waiting room which serviced both the 2 gates. 2 large air conditioning machines spewing cold air which most people stayed away from sitting near. I chose to sit close to them with a thick jacket on as there were mosquitos everywhere.Duty free counters selling local handicrafts located outside the waiting area, but to access them, one has to go through the security people. In the waiting area, there is a counter where one can purchase some small pastries and drinks. Did not see any toilets. When one is ready to board, there is yet another security check in which guards go through all the hand luggage and recheck plane tickets and passport details. Have to get on a bus to get to the plane. People were surprised the plane actually took off on time."
