Porlamar Airport

Lasting Impressions....

"I was told by security the best place to sleep is in the domestic terminal." (?)

Good times

"I had to check out of my hostel in Margarita about midday, and my check in was about 6pm - to fly about 11.pm. After a few boiling hours on the beach, i figured Id head to the airport and spend the rest of my bolivars and take a shower. I realised there wasn't a shower and spent ages trying to check my bags in. Eventually, I was ready to snuggle down and have a nap ( extremely late drunken night the evening before, feeling rather weak and emotionally highly strung) Its only a small airport and there was only our flight back to the UK going from there. there were heaps of english package tourists complaining which was both the high and low lights of the hours spent there. they were complaining about the venezuelan people, complaining that its like being in bandit-land etc. grr. weird,Id had the best holiday ever in venezuela! So then everybody proceeded to get well drunk. I was trying to kip- but to no avail. loads of English whiners complaining about everything; what a shit holiday they'd had. etc. some men started fighting. Sleep was elusive indeed. The food in the cafeteria was diabolical. I have never smelt hot dogs like those in all my days. On the plus side I got a bottle of gordons gin for 5, a bottle of coffee rum for 4 in the duty free. . I bought a coke for a handful of shrapnel out of my pocket and they let me off the rest as I ran out of cash. The coffee was excellent, and practically free. Right at the end , after a couple of hours delay, the policia pulled me up and rifled through my bag ( complete with rifle) and laughed uncontrollably at my che guevara pin badge- and held up the plane for a further hour whilst they worked out what a girl with a rucksack full of rum & a che badge was doing on a charter flight to the UK with loads of pissed UK tourists!!I would not recommend sleeping here due to the amount of package tourists. Guaranteed to make things worse than they needed to be!happy sleeps amigos "

Not a bad place, but not great either

"I came in on a German charter flight - Condor arrived at about 22h. Everyone else on the flight seemed to be on a package tour. I flew out the next morning around 8h. I was told by security the best place to sleep is in the domestic terminal. There was still a little activity with people arriving and being picked up. I thought that at least some people would stay the night too. It turns out I was the only one left at midnight. As you would expect there is plenty of security around. Just after midnight and to my alarm, I was told to move on as sleeping in the airport is not allowed. After a short plea telling them I had to fly early the next day, they let me stay. Bucket seats so concrete floor is the only option and lights are kept on all night, occasional cleaning activity. Not exactly fun, but better than paying for taxi rides and a hostel."

Um, you may want to rethink sleeping in this place

CONS - "This was an experience NEVER TO FORGET! As we waited for our flight back to Toronto, the waiting area was overcrowded, noisy, lots of drunks (not enough consumed at the resort), and if you wish to dine with cockroaches, this is the place to eat. Cockroaches were scampering across the sandwich counter, over the meat, cheese and bread."
