Alicante Airport

Many thanks to FlyGlobespan for allowing me to experience night time at Alicante airport -- delays from 18:30 to 2:45am are totally reasonable! Grrr.
Power sockets for laptops are available, but you have to look hard for them. I eventually found one hidden at the base of one of the big brown pillars in the food court. Only a few of these have power sockets (I'm convinced the other pillars are just sneakily placed decoys!) so make sure you grab a table next to one.
There is still no free internet in Alicante, but there is a Telefonica 'Zona Wi-fi' available. This supports many other country's wifi networks, including BT OpenZone which I fortunately have access to.
Be advised that all shops around here shut at 22:15. It's probably a good idea to stock up on some bottled water before this time as it's not necessarily advisable to drink the tap water.
The light is dimmed at just after midnight which probably makes sleeping more comfortable.
Looking around the food court area, there are some comfy looking seats without dividers available outside gates 7 and 8, and these are in use on the other gates as well. I doubt I'll be getting any sleep in tonight, but if I wanted to I would probably snooze quite happily there.
Overall the airport has improved a lot, I think, since some of these reviews were written. No problems with cleanliness, rats, crazy urban outdoorsmen, etc. There is also a magnificent new terminal building under construction (due for completion next year I think), which may have further over-nighting potential.

"Long delays at check-in, expensive refreshments, hard seating, no entertainment, announcements distorted and unable to understand, very dirty and unclean lounge with discarded food, drinks and paper everywhere, no cleaning staff around.
Departure display tv not updated and information desk had trainee who didn't know anything but tried to find out why my flight was showing as on time when in fact it had been grounded in the UK for technical reasons. After being delayed for over 2 hours I telephoned the airline carrier directly who informed me the aircraft was still in the UK but would depart within the hour to fly to Alicante. Alicante airport showed departure time as 1-15pm when actual time was 3-55pm, information desk said there was no problem.
Still this is Spain, who cares, it will arrive eventually! aircraft finally arrived 5 hours after it was supposed to depart and departure board still showing on-time!"
