Not a bad place, but not great either

"I spent a night in the Chelyabinsk airport when waiting for a flight to Almaty, Kazakhstan in June 2004. With the flight scheduled for 4 a.m. it was my only option. In the end however, the flight departed a few hours late. The airport is small and quiet. There were a handful of other people there for the same purpose. After getting acquainted with an old Kazakh couple, they said that they would watch over my bags while I was sleeping. It worked out well. My only concern is that a few weeks later, I read about a hostage situation in the same airport. Probably, security is tightened now because of this incident."
