To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Lajes International Airport.

What to Expect

Lajes Airport (code: TER) has a small terminal that handles a few commercial flights from Europe and North America and serves as a military base. Facilities include three small cafes and a few shops. Free WiFi helps pass the time.  For added comfort while you wait, an airport lounge is available. See Airport Lounges in the guide below for location and access information.

Sleeping in Lajes Airport

We do not yet have any sleep-related airport reviews, but this airport may close nightly from 1:00AM to 5:00AM. Have a backup plan if you are trying to spend the night here. In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.  For more information on Europe’s Schengen Area, click here.

Unlimited Free WiFi is available at Lajes Airport. Connect to the “”Aerogare.Azores.Gov”” network.

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: Levels 1 and 3.

Duty Free & Shopping – Duty Free is available on the 2nd Floor. Shopping is otherwise limited to 3 other shops including a convenience style shop.

Food & Drinks – The airport has three small cafes. Locations: Check-in, landside, 3rd floor • Departures, landside, 2nd floor • Departures, airside, 2nd floor.

Information Desk – A SATA information desk is located landside in the Check-In area (level 3). An Azores tourist information desk is located landside in the Arrivals area (level 1).

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Location: Arrivals area, downstairs, just before you exit the building.  A reader tells us: “They are bright blue and are near the glass doors to the outside, but around the corner to the left and then left again. Put your items in an open locker, insert coins in the kiosk machine and submit your locker number, and a token will pop out of the kiosk. When you return for your luggage, insert the token in the kiosk and the locker door should open for you. ”

Postal Service – Send your last minute postcards to friends and family from airport’s post office. Location: landside, 2nd floor. Hours: 9:00AM – 12:30PM and 2:00PM – 5:30PM (Mon-Fri). Closed on weekends.

The airport is open 24 hours.

In August 2018, a reader let us know that the airport is closed between 1:00AM and 5:00AM. This has not been confirmed by the airport but you should have a backup plan if you plan to spend the night.
