Do not attempt to sleep in this airport overnight! You will be kicked out and they turn on the water sprinkers outside the airport!

To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Pisa International Airport, also known as Galileo Galilei Airport.

What to Expect

pisa airport guidePisa Airport (code: PSA) has a small terminal that handles low-cost and seasonal routes. Amenities include over 10 eateries and duty-free and souvenir shops. Unfortunately, WiFi is available on a time-limited basis. Economy class passengers can pay to enter an airport lounge. See Airport Lounges in the guide below for location and access information.

Sleeping in Pisa Airport

The airport closes nightly, from the day’s last flight until 4:00AM, and does not permit overnight stays. Water sprinklers outside the terminal turn on, further preventing any outdoor sleepers. In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there is a lounge that you can enter by paying at the door, purchasing a lounge pass or through a lounge membership program. If sleeping in the airport sounds like a nightmare, there are hotels near Pisa Airport.  However, the hotels in the city center are close enough (within 10-20 minutes) that you don’t necessarily need to stay at the airport.  Visit Tripadvisor to see a list of hotels in Pisa, search deals and read traveller reviews.

Free WiFi is available at Pisa Airport for 60 minutes. Connect to the “SAT-wifi-FREE” network.

Departing passengers using the Galilei VIP Lounge have 4 free hours of access. In addition, internet access and printing facilities are available for a fee at the Europe Rent Wifi. Location: Ground floor, near the Arrivals area exit. Hours: Unknown.

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: 1st Floor • Ground Floor, near the escalator on the ground floor.

Baby Care Facilities – Baby changing stations are available in restrooms throughout the airport. A Family Room, with restroom and facilities for families, is located near the airport ticket office.

Banking Services – Cassa di Risparmio di Pisa Bank is located on the 1st floor. Hours: 8:35AM – 4:30PM Mon-Fri (closed by 1:00PM on some public holidays).

Chapel – A Catholic chapel is available on the 1st floor of the airport. Hours: 7:00AM – 8:00PM.

Currency Exchange – Forex handles currency exchange, money transfers, cash advances, and more. Two locations: Check-in Hall A, landside (Open from 5:00AM – 8:00PM, Mon-Tue / 5:00AM – 9:00PM, Wed – Sun) • Arrivals Hall exit (Open 10:00AM – 4:00PM, Daily).

Duty Free & Shopping – Dufry offers Duty Free shopping on the ground floor of the Departures area (airside). A variety of retail stores are available landside and airside throughout the terminal.

Family Room – Includes bathroom and special services for families. Location: In the restroom close to the Pisa Airport Ticket Office.

Food & Drinks – Food concessions throughout the airport operate on varying schedules. At the time of this update, there are no 24-hour dining options. Food options include: Briciole • Bros Lounge Café • Buoni & Belli • Covim • Gran Cafe & Pizza Chef • Gusto • Mastro Bistecca Osteria • Moka Cafe • Pisa Airport Cafe • Pro.du.co.

Information Desk – If you have any questions, there is an airport information desk to provide assistance! Located in the Arrivals Area. Hours: 7:00AM – 11:00PM.

Laundry – Lavand’air offers express laundry service and tailoring service. Location: Check-In Hall B. Hours: 8:45AM – 2:45PM.

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Left luggage is stored at the Information Desk in the Arrivals Area. Rates: 7,00€. Hours: You can leave bags between the hours from 9:00AM – 7:00PM. Pick-up hours are 8:00AM – 8:00PM.

Luggage Wrapping – Protect your bags from theft and damage by having your bags wrapped in plastic by TrueStar SecureBag. Location: Check-In Area, Ground Floor. Rates: unknown.

Medical Services – If you feel unwell or injure yourself, first aid services are available. Location: Landside, check-in area.

Mobile Charging – A reader tells us “There are a lot of charging ports in the chairs on the arrivals side. The chairs in departures do not have this feature.” (January 2023)

Pharmacy –  Farmacie Comunali Pisa – Location: Ground floor, Check-in Hall A. Hours: 8:00AM – 8:00PM.

Pisa Airport has a car rental terminal, which is just a 5-minute walk or short shuttle bus ride from the main airport terminal. Taxi

Metered taxis are readily available at the taxi stand outside of the Arrivals Hall exit.

Train

Pisa Airport is about 1 km from Pisa Centrale railway station, from which you can reach any Italian railway network destination. The airport is now connected to the train station via the high-speed, direct link, People Mover. At less than 40 metres from the terminal it is easy to reach and travels at 5/8 minute intervals between the hours of 6:00AM and 12:00AM.
