Melbourne Avalon Airport

So, instead of paying for only a few hours in a hostel I took a bus from the Centre of Melbourne to Avalon Airport the night before my 6am Jetstar flight to Sydney.
Why Avalon and not one of the two bigger airports, you ask? I've been asking myself the same question for almost two years.
Thinking this bus ride to Avalon would be fairly brief, I was grossly mistaken. It would appear that Avalon was in fact over 45 minutes bus ride away from Melbourne(and as far as I was aware not near any civilisation whatsoever)
Sitiing by the check in on one of the benches, getting somewhat comfortable, I was told by a member of staff that Avalon Airport would indeed be closing and I would not be able to sleep inside.
After asking again and practically begging, I was still at this point without a place to sleep. Though the staff at Avalon were totally useless:they offered me a place to sleep in the security guard's office.
So it had got to midnight or one o'clock and I was picked up my a man in a car and driven about 3/4 minutes to some building where the securtity guard was doing his night shift. I was told to stay in the waiting room next door, which had armrested chairs, so no sleeping on those and a very uncomfortable floot, which was what I had to settle for. Now this could hae been fine If not for the door being slightly ajar and nothing I could do about it. So that plus my clothes being rather damp from four straight days of Melbourne rain, left me with an awful cold on my flight back to Sydney and in an even worse mood.
My advise is to NOT sleep in this airport because you CANNOT sleep there!
