"Three of us Canadian guys going through the south pacific on our way to Australia. Flying with Air New Zealand we arrived shortly after midnight, a representative met us when we cleared customs. She took us to their office where we were able to dump our bags. Having to wait until the morning to catch a bus to our hostel we decided to explorer the airport. We were approached by some Fijian dude who asked us a few details about ourselves. He claimed that he was paid by the airport to show backpackers a good time. He offered us a ride downtown free of charge to go check out some bars and firedancing. I thought bullshit and we kinda laughed at him but having the night to burn we thought ah that hell and jumped in. As soon as we got out on the highway they cracked us all some nice cold beers. First of all they took us to some barbeque where he seemed to know everybody and we stuffed our faces and drank more beers. They rolled a few joints of pure fijian bud and smoked them before heading to the bar. Got just pissed and later he actually had a couple prostitutes called over for us which we rejected hah! They drove us back to the airport before morning just shitfaced and stoned out of our minds. I think I spent maybe 15 dollars US?? haha it was awesome. Grabbed our bags and went on our way. NADI airport is amazing!"

"I've done a bit of traveling, but let me vote for Nadi as the worst airport in the world. On a recent trip [March, 2000] we had a 7 hour layover from Queenstown, N.Z. to LAX using Air Pacific [the national airlines of Fiji, they have four planes so you go when they want to go, not when you want to go. They refused to issue seat assignments on the second part of the trip and actually made us go through Customs to get back on the same airline. Now the rub; you had to leave the only air conditioned part of the terminal, the International gates [that's bad marketing as this is the Duty Free area], and they then refused re-entrance to that area because we were more than four hours before our flight. It was hot, humid, the non-International area was probably built in the 50's and, as said, no air conditioning. It was not seven hours in Paradise and to be followed by a 10 hour flight on a full 747 wasn't too great. Avoid Nadi, if possible. "
