Des Moines Airport

Lasting Impressions....

"The flood of 1993 was horrible and displayed the DMIA at its worse. " (Jake Carpenter)

Good times

This airport is a breeze. Everyone is friendly, there are hotels, restaurants, fast food, convenience stores, and even a driving range that you can WALK to just across the street. If you get stuck there you really can walk across the street to all these places. "

Not a bad place, but not great either

Ok, DSM is the most comfortable night's sleep I've ever had in an airport. Which is to say not comfortable at all except by comparison. I got four hours of solid sleep.

Here's the tip: At the far end of the terminal--as far as you can get from the car rental and baggage claim--is a carpeted section that has lights on motion sensors. You can sleep under the seats, which all have individual arm rests. The carpet is much warmer than the faux stone floor in other parts of the airport. A member of the cleaning staff pointed this out to me.

There was nothing open between midnight and when the earliest flight's ticketing counter opened. Nothing. There's WIFI, but you have to pay for it. I didn't check the toilets out, but I'd assume they were as clean as the rest of the airport.

Um, you may want to rethink sleeping in this place

so, just how bad is this airport?
