    Heraklion Airport

A barn with hay would be an improvement. Toilets are rank and have no seats on them. The ‘2’ ‘restaurants’ they have are the same chain and serve a small selection of dog shit for prices that would get you to the moon and back for a nice big bite of lunar cheese. They don’t even post information on the boards for your flight. Just close your eyes, spin around, and pick a gate and a time and hope for the best. No smoking area. They have a huge duty free but I didn’t notice any duty free prices. There’s a few chairs to sit on if you can find space as it gets super crowded. No air con so prepare to get sweaty as humanly possible, make sure you bring suitcases full of cash to buy water. Holiday to crete was amazing but this airport is like living in Joseph Fritzls basement.

    Solo Female at Heraklion

Heraklion won't be winning any luxury awards any time soon, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected (granted, I did stay during the off-season so that might be a factor). There was the Everest Cafe which was expensive but had decent food and really friendly staff, as well as wifi if you asked. There was also a snack-magazine-souvenir kiosk-type shop. The chairs were really uncomfortable, so you're on your own for mattresses, but the airport staff didn't give me a hard time or even bother me at all.The layout is nice too because you can tuck yourself away easily. I managed to find a couch on the upper floor, and I was undisturbed the entire night. There were electrical outlets available for use. I will say that they leave a lot of the lights on overnight, and flights are often delayed so they were paging announcements over the intercom well past midnight. I did snag about 5 hours of sleep, though, and felt perfectly safe and welcome. From what I've heard, I had a better experience there than at the Heraklion Youth Hostel.

(Review by someone helpful) the airport seats are very uncomfortable and it is extremely cold at night. however, a lot of people sleep at night so it's not weird at all. MY ADVICE: get there early and snatch up those 2 couches upstairs (BEFORE the terminal) they are pretty secretive but they are sitting up there around some offices and i saw people sleeping on them. before the terminal and after the terminal is pretty much identical (except for those magic couches) and it is pretty small. there is a food thing open late on the before terminal side. good luck!
