Axum went through an upgrade and runway extension a few years ago, but it's still pretty basic. Stands for hotel bookings in the lobby, and a few gift shops selling only religious paraphenalia (Axum is the mother city of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church). Hard seats. Small but pleasant cafe upstairs. Airport closes at night; book a cheap room in town.
