I was traveling to Vizag via Bangalore from Singapore - with my flight to Vizag at 11am the next day. The new Benguluru airport is a nice thing to happen at last! It has a truly world class outlook. It was a quick affair at the immigration and as I walked further to the baggage claim area I spotted my baggage right there on the belt. The premises/fixtures were quite new and clean that lead to a fresh feeling among several of my co-passengers. One of the Singaporean Passenger who was perhaps a frequent traveler was quite amazed at the sea change(as much as I was). However I felt the International arrival Hall was a bit smaller. When I inquired about a place to spend my rest of the night I was directed to the visible coffee bristo restaurant in the arrival hall, Though it had some very good seats with cushions etc, I didn't think it could offer any sleep. However the Bristo was a good experience as it served a variety of Indian and International items, of which I fed myself with the costly but tasty Indian ones several times that night - fearing they'd ask me to leave the place if I stopped spending ! My 5 stars for the food here though.
I did adventure outside the building into the public area (with permission from the security) and it was open but busy place with some fast food kiosks and other small stores all thru out the night. This place had many cushioned plastic chairs for visitors but it was cold Bangalore night and this place is only good for a couple of hours wait and not for a night out. When I tried to enter the Departure area where I thought I could have found a more comfortable seat for a nap but apparently I could not be permitted at that hour as my flight was a good 8 hours away. So back to the Bristo until it was 6AM. The departure area too appeared to be smaller than I expected for the growth this airport is expecting and the flight information screens were disappointingly small. I wondered if they could not spare any space on walls to mount those big wide screens instead of having those huge commercial banners everywhere. It may not be a good place for longer transits unless I was misinformed about any hidden transit facilities.
