Guangzhou Airport

Lasting Impressions....

"I saw a few of the local chinese passengers enter the black flaps where the luggage comes out from. A short while later, they emerged with their luggages, dusted themselves and moved off." (?)

tell us how much this airport rocked!

by traveler, 1/19/2008
I spent a night at the Guangzhou airport in mid Jan 2008 after my flight was delayed and I missed the connections for the next leg of my travel. The security moved me 3 times during the night and the 1st time wanted actually to remove me from not only the arrivals hall but from the airport itself. At about 1am was the greatest fiasco when they moved all the "left over" passengers to the departures hall upstairs. We weren't bothered anymore until about 4:30am when the airport started buzzing again for the 1st departure flights.
One of the VIP spaces there turned out rather good (for the circumstances) to sleep on - a couch! It was nice despite the removed (by the service staff, i assume) cushion which left the bare springs to sleep on.
All in all - if you end up there overnight - go directly to the departures on the 2nd flour and get as comfy as you can.

"I arrived at 23:30 on an internal flight from Nanning, hoping to find somewhere quiet for the night, due to an 06:30 check-in to Paris (and onto LHR) the following morning.NO CHANCE!!!As soon as I wheeled through into the arrivals hall (hoping to find a quiet corner), I was jumped on by security, who interrogated me as to why I was there at that time of night as the airport was about to close. I showed them my early-morning ticket and was promptly loaded onto a courtesy bus and taken to a local hotel in Guangzhou, a somewhat unsettling experience as I was travelling alone, and was bundled unceremoniously into said bus and driven off into the night, to God knows where - quite a decent hotel as it happened (although unplanned for in my itinerary!)."
