To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Port Moresby Jackson International Airport.

What to Expect

Port Moresby Airport (code: POM) consists of two small terminals (Domestic and International) linked by a covered walkway. There is a restaurant and some small shops in the recently renovated International Terminal, but limited amenities in the Domestic Terminal. Overall, the International Terminal is described as being much more clean and sanitary than the Domestic Terminal. One reviewer suggests only using the bathrooms in the International Terminal. WiFi is available to help pass the time. And if you don’t mind paying, comfort may be found through fee-based access to one of the first class lounges. See Airport Lounges in the guide below.

Sleeping in Port Moresby Airport

port moresby airport guideWe do not have any recent sleep-related airport reviews, but one past review (2014) from a former resident advised against sleeping at the airport due to personal security and hygiene reasons.  Have a backup plan if you’re planning to spend the night.   For uninterrupted sleep, there are hotels near the airport. Good to Know

Be wary of scam artists and pickpockets, and keep a close watch on your bags at all times, even when going through security. Pre-organize your ground transportation.

Free WiFi is available in both Domestic and International terminals. For access, you must present your boarding pass and photo ID or passport to the NAC Information Desk inside the departures lounge in order to get your username and password.

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: unknown.

Banking Services – Banque Socredo Location: T1/Domestic, Landside Hours: 8:00AM – 11:45AM and 1:30PM – 4:30PM (Mon-Fri).

Business Center – Location: T1/Domestic, Landside Hours: 7:30AM – 6:00PM (Mon-Fri), 7:30AM – 1:00PM (Sat) and 7:30AM – 12:00PM (Sun).

Currency Exchange – Yes, available.

Duty Free & Shopping – Duty-free shopping is available in the International Terminal.

Food & Drink – Restaurant and Snack Bar are available at the airport.

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Luggage storage is available landside in the International Terminal. Rate: unknown. Hours: 6:00AM – 12:00PM and 1:30PM – 10:00PM every day except Thursday when it closes at 11:00PM.

Postal Services – Postal and telecommunication services are available at OPT. Location: T1/Domestic, Landside Hours: 6:30AM – 11:00AM/12:00PM – 3:00PM (Mon-Thurs) and 6:30AM – 11:00AM/12:00PM – 2:00PM (Fri).
