GRO Airport Overview

To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Barcelona Girona Airport.

What to Expect

Girona Airport (code: GRO) consists of a small, two-level terminal building with 11 gates, a few restaurants and cafes, and a convenience/news store. At the time of this update, one restaurant is open 24 hours a day on the Landside, this could be seasonal hours only. WiFi is available to help pass the time and there are outlets to charge mobile devices. There are no private lounges at this airport.

Sleeping in Girona Airport

Barcelona Girona hosts a lot of overnight sleeper as many passengers reportedly choose to sleep in the airport to catch early morning flights. Reviewers note that the seating is uncomfortable and includes armrests, which leads many people to sleep on the floor. However, security wakens floor sleepers at 5:00AM as this is against the rules during the airport’s regular opening hours. While the overhead announcements are turned off during the night, the vending machines are described as loud. The airport’s air conditioning makes for chilly temperatures. Given the previous descriptions, travellers planning an overnight sleep at this airport should consider bringing travel mat or sleeping bag, and earplugs/noice-cancelling headphones. Explore our guide to sleeping in Barcelona Girona Airport or read some traveller airport reviews for more tips. For uninterrupted sleep, there are hotels near the airport. See Airport Hotels in the guide below.

To help us keep this guide up-to-date, you can add or update information or write a review to submit airport tips and photos. You can also visit the airport’s website for current information.  For more airport information continue scrolling down to explore more in our Girona Airport Guide.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.  For more information on Europe’s Schengen Area, click here.
