A few airport reviews from the archives

I have never stayed there overnight, but would like to say a few words about BEG. After the major renovations of terminal 2 done in recent years, it looks much nicer and more comfortable. Some renovations in old terminal 1 are still under way, as well as transit area and boarding gates themselves have to be re-done, in order to look as the rest of renovated areas. It is very clean, check in area, main lobby, bathrooms. There are designated smoking areas, wi-fi spots and some nice coffee shops. Bad side is that they close quite early at night, should be open at least til midnight. What is particularly good is that all formalities are done quite fast, from check in, immigration, boarding and luggage collection, comparing to the airports of similar size. It is a medium sized airport, with capacity of appx.5 mil pax per year, currently only half of that capacity is used, but number of passengers is growing year by year. What I would love to see in the future is unification of terminals 1 and 2,more restaurants, free internet access, more seating places, longer opening hours of retail shops and more entertainment options.
However, the improvements are huge and BEG Nikola Tesla will soon become a regional major hub,if everything goes well.

"I had to spend the night at Beograd airport. The only word that security people know in English is "passport", and they will ask for it so many times. The airport is supposed to be closed during the night, but I managed to stay there. There are lots of annoying flies all around. There is a filthy cafe at the arrivals, but it closes at 11, and there is a nicer cafeteria upstairs, but it is also closed until 6 in the morning. Toilets are quite clean and not so bad. There is nothing else there, and the plastic chairs are the worst if you want to rest a bit.
At least, I met a Greek guy there in the same situation as mine, and we could spend the night talking (Hi, Antonis!!)"
