"All in all, a very third world airport that shockingly operates extremely poorly compared to Dubai or Bahrain." - LostAllnatt

This airport is old, poorly designed and managed. The sad thing is that it is the major airport in Saudi (most passenger load and service the millions who converge for the annual haj) and the major hub of the flag carrier.

The South terminal is basically a single terminal building serving the domestic and international flights for Saudi airline companies, from which passengers are transported by buses all the way to the tarmac (no gates).

The main lobby has been improved in comparison to the recent past but organization remains to be poor.

Recently a small expansion was built (representing the actual departure hall) this has allowed slight more room to breath at the security check area. The waiting area near the gates to the buses is large but not large enough. One mediocre duty free and first class lounge. Only one coffee outlet (costa coffee), a single unknown eatery that in essence is open 24 hours.

Seating is cushioned but still hard with arm rests scattered all around. Wifi is sometimes available and not free.

The North terminal serving the foreign airlines, is a 10 minute taxi ride (there is no conventional tram, shuttle service). It has the same overall design and as a result the same shortcomings.

Do not attempt to transit at this airport.
