Sleeping in Airports

Airport Adventures: Dakar Airport

by a traveller

I went to the taxi line, and grabbed a cab, telling the driver that I just wanted him to park in front of my gate, and I’d put my suitcases in the car while I slept.

“Old Story, but still good. I was traveling from Dakar to Accra on Nigerian Airways (always avoid) which was running 16 hrs. late. Small check-in area, absolutely packed with people with no seating and no amenities. So I went to the taxi line, and grabbed a cab, telling the driver that I just wanted him to park in front of my gate, and I’d put my suitcases in the car while I slept. He was amenable, and we came to an agreed price (helps to know French) and he went off to gab with his buddies. So I rested/slept in the cab for a few hours until my flight finally came in, and I was denied boarding (that’s another story!). It could have been dangerous, but I wasn’t too worried. But once I’d checked in, I was behind security and the area was more comfortable until I could book another flight in the morning. Might be a good trick for people looking for a cheap, more comfortable place to sleep!”
