The security guard overheard us trying to decide about a hotel room and suggested we could crash on couches in the lounge.

“June 1981 – Well this occured as a kid while travelling with my parents. We had just flown in on an Air Force jet as part of the Military Airlift Command from California via Australia, Marshall Islands, and Hawaii. We had about seven hours before we had to catch a train to the intra island ferry to Wellington. The security guard overheard us trying to decide about a hotel room and suggested we could crash on couches in the lounge. He also brought us back to his breakroom and made tea for my parents ( I got hot cocoa! ). He was the only watchman and other being cold the couches were comfy.”
