What to Expect

Linz Airport’s small, modern terminal (code: LNZ) primarily handles seasonal flights across Europe. Amenities are limited to a shop and a restaurant. The free WiFi will be your only saving grace while waiting for your flight.

Sleeping in Linz Airport

Camping out here is impossible as the airport closes nightly from 11:00 PM until 5:30 AM. For uninterrupted sleep, hotels are nearby. See our Airport Hotels section below for more info.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.   

Airport Hours

The airport is open 5:30 AM – 11:00 PM (Mon–Fri) and 6:00 AM – 11:00 PM (Sat–Sun). The departure hall and car parks open approximately 2.5 hours before the first departure of the day.

Airport Hotels

There are no hotels within the terminal. A few small hotels are located near the airport and along the road toward the city, about 15–20 minutes away by car. Visit Tripadvisor to see a list of hotels in Linz, search deals and read traveller reviews.

Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships

Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there are lounges that you can enter by paying at the door, purchasing a lounge pass or through a lounge membership program.

  • Linz Airport Lounge – Location: Airside, after Security, through Duty Free, turn right toward Gate 1; take the glass lift to the 1st Floor. Hours: 2 hours before first departure – last departure (based on flight schedules). Showers: Yes. Security & Safety

Sleeping in any airport can include a certain level of risk, especially when travelling alone. It’s important to take certain precautions to ensure your safety and the security of your valuables. Here are a few tips:

  • Safety First. It’s a good idea to know where the security office is located and look for video cameras where you plan to sleep. You can also ask the security personnel for advice on the safest places to spend the night.
  • Don’t Seclude Yourself. If you’re travelling alone, we recommend you stay near other travellers or close to security. This will help you feel more secure and deter potential thieves.
  • Hide Your Valuables. It’s also important to hide your valuables. Don’t leave them out in plain view, as this could make you a target for theft. Additionally, if you are a deep sleeper, you may want to padlock your bag to something or sleep with your bag up against a wall to make it harder for someone to access zippers and pockets. We have received reports of sleepers who woke up without their phones and laptop bags. The travellers were left with just their headphones and laptop bag strap.
  • Stay Alert. It’s best to stay alert and awake if you feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Drink coffee or other caffeinated beverages to help you stay awake, and remember that you can always catch up on sleep during your flight. These simple precautions can help you enjoy a safe night at the airport.

More Services, Facilities & Things To Do On A Layover

ATMs / Cash Machines – Allgemeine Sparkasse ATMs are available in the check-in areas.

Baby Care Facilities – Baby changing rooms are available landside in the Departures lounge (lower level) and airside in the transit zone. An access code is required; obtain it from the Information Desk.

Banking Services – Allgemeine Sparkasse provides full-service banking, ATMs, and currency exchange. Location: hallway between the Arrivals and Check-in areas. Hours: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM (Mon–Wed).

Children’s Play Area – A children’s play area with video games and climbing equipment is available. Location: airside, transit zone.

Duty Free & Shopping – Duty-free shopping is available.

Fastlane – Security Fastlane access is available for €5. Payment can be made at the information desk.

Information Desk – Located in the transit zone between the Departures and Arrivals areas. Hours: 5:00 AM – 11:00 PM.

Observation Area – An observation area overlooking the runway is available and includes a small play area for children. Hours: 6:00 AM – 11:00 PM; closed in winter. Entry: free.

Airport Transportation: Getting To/From The Airport

Buses

Public bus no. 601 connects LNZ airport to the Linz city center in 22 minutes. At the time of this update, a single fare is €3.40, with discounts for children and older adults. Visit the airport website for the schedule.

Car Rentals

The following car rental companies are available: Avis • Budget • ecar-rent • Europcar • Hertz • Sixt. Offices are in the building at Main Car Park 1.

Taxis

Taxis are located directly in front of the arrivals hall. At the time of this update, approximate fares are: Linz Central Station €30.00, Linz city center €35.00, and €50.00 to Wels city center or Wels train station.

Trains

The nearby Hörsching train station serves the airport, with a free shuttle bus connecting to the airport for those with valid plane tickets from 5 AM to 10 PM. The journey via shuttle only takes 3 minutes. Once there, trains from the station will connect to Linz and Wels. Visit the airport website for the schedule.
