What to Expect

Port Louis Airport (code: MRU) serves African, Asian, and European routes out of two terminals: an older, renovated terminal and an attached, newer terminal that opened in 2013. Facilities include a several eateries and shops and travellers report great interior design and safety. WiFi is available for three hours to pass the time. Economy class passengers can pay to enter a few airport lounges, most of which have showers for freshening up! See Airport Lounges in the guide below for location and access information.

Sleeping in Port Louis Airport

It seems this airport closes nightly, by 11:00PM, so spending the night here is not possible. For uninterrupted sleep, nearby hotels offer shuttle service. See our Airport Hotels section below for more info or read some traveller airport reviews for more tips.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships

Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there are lounges that you can enter by paying at the door, purchasing a lounge pass or through a lounge membership program. Visit the individual lounge page for more details about the lounge itself and to also find out how you can gain lounge access with just an economy class ticket!

  • Salon Nenuphar – Location: New Terminal Building, Airside, opposite Boarding Gate 19. Showers are available. Lounge Access: Prepaid lounge pass • Lounge membership programs.
  • Amédée Maingard Lounge – Location: Airside. Showers are available. Lounge Access: Pay at the Door • Prepaid lounge pass • Lounge membership programs.

Other Lounges

  • YU Lounge – Location: VIP Building, 500 meters from the Main Building. Showers are available.

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: Landside, outside of the Tour Operators area • Airside, near Gates 4 and 7.

Baby Care Facilities – Baby change facilities are available in washrooms both Landside and Airside.

Chapel/Prayer Room – Airside Level 1, Hall A near Shops.

Currency Exchange – Currency Exchange services are available from at least 10 kiosks throughout the airport.

Duty Free & Shopping – Duty-free shopping is available in both the Departures / Boarding area and the International Arrivals area (Baggage Claim Hall). Clothing, Mauritian goods, and more can be purchased at retail shops located throughout the airport.

Food & Drinks – Food concessions throughout the airport operate with varying schedules. At the time of this update, we are unable to confirm the availability of any 24-hour dining options.

Information Desk – Location: Level 0, near the Tour Operator booths.

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Not available.

Luggage Wrapping – Protect your luggage and its contents with luggage wrapping. Location: Ground2Air (International Check-In Hall A, near Gate 13) • World Safe Wrap (International Check-In Hall A, near Gate 12 • International Check-In Hall B, near Gate 16).

Medical Services – Urgent and emergency medical care is available at First Aid stations in these two locations: Level 0 at Gate 9 (landside) • Departures Hall, airside, Level 1.

Mobile Charging – Power sockets are available the seating areas located in the departures zones, Airside.

Piano – The airport now features a piano for passengers to play and enjoy. Location: International Departures, Airside, opposite Gate 26.

Post Office – Location: Arrivals (Level 0), near Gate 3, at the right side of the terminal. Hours: 8:15AM – 4:00PM (Mon-Fri) 8:15AM – 11:45AM (Sat). Closed on Sunday. Stamps are also sold at the bookstore opposite Gate 28. Postboxes can also be found at several locations throughout the airport.

Prayer Room – Location: Departure Hall, airside, near Gate 22.

According to an October 2017 review, the airport closes at 11:00PM and it is not possible to sleep in the airport overnight.

Bus

There are three public buses that serve MRU airport. Bus 9, 10 and 198 connect the airport with a variety of destinations including, Mahebourg Bus Station, Curepipe Jan Palach South Bus Station and more. Buses depart every 10 – 20 minutes and journeys last from 70 to 120 minutes.

ABC Car Rental • Avis • Dollar/Thrifty • Europcar • First Car rental • Hertz • OLA Mauritius • Sixt • and more. The car rental counters are located outside the Tour Operators Hall.
