OPO Airport Overview
To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport.
What to Expect
Porto Airport (code: OPO) consists of a three-level, modern terminal with many shops and over a dozen eateries, mainly on the airside. WiFi is available, but there are reportedly few outlets for charging mobile devices. Comfort can be found through fee-based access to the airport’s first-class lounge.
Sleeping in Porto Airport
Airport staff and security are generally tolerant of overnight sleepers. Travellers feel safe sleeping in the airport; however, a reviewer reported being pickpocketed in October 2023. Seating is sufficient for this airport, though most seats are made of metal and equipped with armrests, making a decent nap a little more challenging. Spread out on the floor, but bring an extra layer or travel mat to cushion the hard ground. By night, try your luck on the couches and soft seating in the closed cafes till morning.
Here are good sleep spots that travellers have reported:
- Look for the lounges located near the boarding gates’ windows.
- The upstairs level seems to have somewhat private sleep nooks because the lights are shut off for a few hours overnight.
Cold temperatures and bright lights were the two primary sleep hindrances cited, so consider bringing extra layers or travel blankets and eyeshades if you intend to spend the night in this airport.
For uninterrupted sleep, there are hotels near the airport. See our Airport Hotels section below for locations.
