A few airport reviews from the archives

"WARNING: Those who think of sleeping there BEFORE their morning flight - DON'T!I have 2 different stories about sleeping in Nairobi's airport, one is very good , the other very bad.
GOOD STORY: In February 2007 I went to volunteer in Tanzania. The cheapest and fastest option for town of Arusha was through Nairobi. I arrived there at 9 PM from London on the British Airways flight (they considerably improved their service and friendliness). I had to catch the shuttle tomorrow morning for Arusha. There are NO hotels near or at the airport, taxi is expensive, night was cold and pitch black and I didn't have lots of money. So, I followed the advice of this web site, and started asking about the rooms. Several airport workers had no clue, even if I showed them the email I got from airport manager telling me that rooms still exist (I did call several times before the trip and no one knew about the rooms! so I emailed the manager and got an OK with a wrong price of 25).
I asked a nice porter guy to walk me there, and voila we were there. The rooms attendant Mr. Philemon was very kind and polite and even showed me several rooms to choose from. They are really BASIC, but clean and comfortable and there is a nice and clean shared toilet and shower. Remember to turn the heater on in the shower, and bring an S hook so you can hang your stuff (this is valid for all travels). It was 40 cash for 8 hours with a receipt. Notice: ALL THE PHONE NUMBERS ON THE RECEIPT ARE WRONG, which I discovered too late on my way back. I had a very good and quiet night sleep and the attendant even woke me up at 6 AM and helped me with bags to the upstairs exit. Please, don't forget to tip at least a dollar or two, these countries are very expensive for their own people and if someone goes out of their way to help you don't hand them little change.
