Lasting Impressions....

Memorable comments left by travellers:

"Had to change in the toilet which made the one in Trainspotting look like the Ritz." (Moray)

"special effort appeared to be made to make sure that no trace of toilet paper could be found." (Pawel)

"we survived on water and cookies" (Joe Goozey)

"The airport itself was a bit of a shock on the first time, especially the toilets, but after travelling around India, i can tell: the airport is one of the safest and cleanest places there. " (sani)

"dirty, with all all pervasive smell of sweet over powering phenyl which they use for disinfecting. The departure lounge has this odour mixed with that of cigarettes." (Amit Mathur)

"the business lounges are a real disgrace. Even when I get to fly business I do not hang out there, it is better in the main hallway." (?)

FEATURED REVIEWS

IGI is actually quite a good airport and seriously not as bad as the some of the above reviews will have you believe.

In arrivals, admittedly, isn't brilliant & I spent 6 hours waiting there for someone in the middle of the night.

But Domestic & International departures are quite good. Especially the former, which has recently been upgraded in the past four months.
The previous domestic terminal was awful, but you rarely sleep at domestic terminals.
Both have decent food stalls, book stalls and good amounts of waiting space.

Basically, the above reviews clearly haven't been the India in recent times and are highly inaccurate. And trust me, there are worse you could go to. Ever been to Heathrow?

I flew from Chennai to Dehli landed at 10:30pm and had an International connection at 5:30am to Amman. There is a free transfer to the International terminal, so I needed to find it. There are all these signs around pointing to it but when you get to the area, there is nothing but a guy behind a counter, the sign was not facing into the main part of the airport so you had to be standing next to it to find it.

Well, I found it. I gave the guy my Indigo boarding pass and itinerary, very good idea to print it whilst at the internet cafe in Nellore. He then said jump on the waiting bus for the 11pm service, NICE!!! Well I actually stayed airside as we drove around the entire complex perimeter, past old planes and new planes and all the various lined up planes, across a couple of runways and taxiways and then to the terminal, only to leave the airside area and go into the big bad Dehli world. The driver was just as crazy as any other Indian drivers and my gear which was on top, of other bags found its way down to the exit doors and out as soon as they opened, I was so happy. I got off the bus and had to find an entrance to the airport, well I couldn't get in, stupid rules about not until 4 hours before.

I went to see the terminal manager he was useless, he said to see my airline, they were useless and the lounge they said to wait in was packed, with people laying over chairs everywhere and no seat for me. I needed a men's room so I found one that was near all the airline offices which had free entry and was a little cleaner than the public ones.

However, just next to the lounge is the fast food court where I bought something and sat for a couple of hours.

I eventually got into the airport around 1-1:30am and chilled a bit, found the men's room AGAIN and finally checked my bags. I found my way though the place, but couldn't find any internet(they had free internet, but you needed a mobile to receive the code), so that was annoying. I needed to basically walk all the way through the airport and then down to ground level to the gate where my plane was leaving. Well the plane had been delayed 30 minutes so it was going to be a 6am takeoff. Not to bad I suppose. Well I found a nice dark corner under the escalators, grabbed a chair and tried to get a bit of sleep. I didn't get too much shut eye, because they constantly make stupid announcements in about 15 languages and flight delays and gate changes. Well boarding time came and got a nice bus ride out to the plane.

I survived Delhi Airport!
