"I did not actually sleep there, but it seemed like a pretty good possibility at the time due to some problems I had with Cubana's lackadaisical reservations staff, and I scoped the place out pretty well. Seating in the 'public' area (I'm hesitant to use that word - pretty much only foreigners would be able to get in unquestioned) is sparse and not suitable for sleeping. I recall sitting on the hard (but clean) floor for an extended period of time. Once past the interrogation chambers the seating got much better. Nevertheless I would not have enjoyed spending the night there as the airport seems to be designed with the idea that people will only spend a few hours there at most.Air conditioning was fine and the terminal was bright, clean and generally up to snuff in comparison to airports in North America. No annoying announcements like in most airports. There were a few gift shops selling the ubiquitous cigars, but no food until you get past security/customs. Since you need a boarding pass and exit tax receipt to do that, chances are you'll be stuck in the public area if you have flight problems. The military officer who conducted my exit interrogation was friendly and talkative - he even wanted to have a beer with me when he finished grilling me on my activities in Cuba, although I had to turn him down since I was completely broke. The military is evidently responsible for security as well as customs/immigrations. It's hard to say whether they would tolerate an overnighter. All the officers I dealt with were exceedingly polite and helpful, but at times the overhelpfulness bordered on intimidation, or at least coercion - they clearly have a lot of rules and they clearly expect you to follow them. So if I were to hazard a guess, I would imagine they might kick you out and escort you to a hotel. If you don't have any money (as in my case) I don't know what they might do with you."

"We had to spend a few extra hours in Varadero because of weather related problems in Canada (5.5hrs.In all). First, this place is small. The seats are just barely ok, meaning they're better than standing. And expensive? Gold card expensive. Forget Canadian money. Use the paper money for toilet paper since the washrooms will not have any. And the ladies stationed at all toilet entrances is annoying Cuban custom. As for sleeping there , I doubt it's possible. Cuban security is efficient and will not tolerate your presence any longer than absolutely necessary. Good points? Cristal cerveza is pretty good and at 2us cheaper than Pearson International."
