Edinburgh Airport

Lasting Impressions....

"After being asleep for some 30 minutes, security woke us and shouted at us for being "a security issue"." (Bjoern)

"I'm actually still sitting at one of the internet kiosks as I write this in Edinburgh airport!!! It's currently 7.34am and my friends are due any minute!

First time sleeping in an airport, and I have to say Edinburgh has a fantastic airport for this need!!! I wasn't bothered once by any member of staff, (cleaning or security), there was a 24hr coffee shop with food, internet kiosks for 3/30mins, and of course, the glorious armrest-free couches that allow you to lie back and catch some Z's.

There were a few minor problems such as, the lighting, as in most airports is very bright so you need to cover your eyes with something! I slept with my head under my hoodie. also earplugs are a MUST!!! It's quite noisy at night with the cleaning crews etc, and the fact the coffee shop is 24hr means that there is constant noises from it!

I tried two different spots during my stay, the first and best, was near the coffee shop and UK arrivals. It was safe, (there was about 20 other people sleeping there!!!) and comfortable. the other location was at the international arrivals, it was more quite, but there was no one in the area so it didn't feel as safe.

Overall I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10!!!! If there was a TV somewhere it would have been perfect!!!!!!

Go Edinburgh!!!"

Not a bad place, but not great either

"Me and two friends slept in Edinburgh airport before heading off to Italy via London. Got cheapo flights with Go that actually weren't going too early in the morning (about 8am or so), but this was our holiday after a summer living in Edinburgh. So we had to move out of our flat and had no-where else to stay for the night. Having about 90euro for 10 days in italy, we needed to save money by sleeping in the airport.

Slept in the arrivals hall on the chairs, which were cold and hard, but didn't have armrests so you could sleep lengthways. There were quite a few other people doing the same, which i was surprised at since it's such a small airport. Got about two hours sleep in total i'd say, though the loudspeaker made announcements every ten minutes for the first half of the night. Not a bad experience all in all. Would definitely do it again for cheapness reasons. Might have had to in Heathrow this summer, but I'm glad I don't now having read some of the reviews. "

Um, you may want to rethink sleeping in this place

"Being stranded in Edinburgh after during the Fringe, we couldn't get a bed in any hostel anywhere. A police lady advised us to go and sleep at the airport. So we went out to the airport (on the bus some drunken American jerk tried to buy my girlfriend and made Hitler-jokes) and settled on a bench close to the luggage area. After being asleep for some 30 minutes, security woke us and shouted at us for being "a security issue". The lady got angry, when we told her we were just waiting for the bus station to open again in order to catch a coach. After a while of shouting at us, the lady told us, she'd make an exception and would allow to sleep there. She went off to shout at all the other airport sleepers; I spend the night awake..."
