Sleeping in Airports

Glasgow International Airport Guide

Whether you have a layover, overnight sleepover or are just quickly passing through, our Glasgow International Airport Guide is a great place to start planning your visit.  Here, you’ll find information on services and facilities available inside the airport – including details about airport lounges, WiFi, mobile charging points, lockers, 24-hour food options, nearby hotels, and everything in between.

there’s still a strange sense of community where, even if we are all suspicious of each other and are sure someone is going to steal all our money, we’re all sleeping on the same benches and will all wake up with the exact same pain in our backs as we stand in the check in line. -Nadine

GLA Airport Overview

To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Glasgow International Airport (code: GLA).

What to Expect

Glasgow International Airport comprises two terminals (Main and Terminal 2) with three piers (West, Central and East). The two terminals are divided by SkyHub, which provides check-in, security, duty-free shopping and other services. There are a few shops and eateries, both landside and airside, but no 24-hour concessions. Things to do while you wait are limited, but the airport’s free WiFi helps pass the time. For additional comfort options, consider accessing one of the airport lounges for a fee. [ see Airport Lounges in the guide below.]

Sleeping in Glasgow Airport

glasgow airport guideThe airport is generally considered to be safe and accommodating to overnight sleepers. The dining zone on the second level reportedly is said to have comfortable couches that people can sleep on while the restaurants are closed between 11:00 PM and 4:00 AM. Be prepared for high-volume music at 2:30 AM when the cafe staff show up. After this point, it is no longer possible to sleep due to the noise. There was a carpeted floor in Terminal 2 that security and staff let people sleep on; however, according to a recent review, the terminal may now be closed for security reasons. Rows of benches on the landside near Tesco Express are described as comfortable; however, the area is described as noisy and cold, so consider bringing earplugs/noise-cancelling headphones and a sweater or travel blanket. Explore our guide to sleeping in Glasgow International Airport or read traveller airport reviews for more tips.   For uninterrupted sleep, albeit for a price, there is a hotel at the airport and others within walking distance. See the Airport Hotels section below for more info.

To help us keep this guide up-to-date, you can add or update information or write a review to submit airport tips and photos. You can also visit the airport’s website for current information. For more airport information, continue scrolling down to explore more in our Glasgow Airport Guide.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.  For more information on Europe’s Schengen Area, click here.
