I had never slept in an airport before, but I set out with some friends to an InterRail trip which started in Italy, and before I went I discovered this great website which gave me great tips on how to sleep in airports. After we decided to follow other sleepers advice we went to Terminal 1. It is a very well illuminated building, safe with security personnel (although they never bothered us), where you are accompanied by fellow travelers and sleepers in a cheerful environment. The bad side is that all the chairs have armrests, but we found this great spot near the restaurant's area called harry's bar where you have these amazing long seats, big enough to sleep and comfortable as well. There was also this XBox you could play (free of charge for the ones interested), also lots of other people who where there had sleeping bags, mattresses etc... and none of them was bothered by security. I had a great time there and would do it all over again.

"Malpensa is a hostile environment to airport sleepers, there is marble floor throughout and every single chair has armrests. However we discovered that if we moved two sets of chairs together so we had the seats facing each other, we could create a space to lie down on the crack between the chairs and it was really comfy! Although they're really heavy and we had to drag them conspicuously and loudly across the floors, the cleaners and the security didn't bat an eyelid. "
