"Warsaw's Chopin Airport is one of the better airports that I have spent the night in. There are a variety of places to sleep, but my preferred location was above the check-in counters in the old departure hall. At the top of the escalators, one finds about 20 long metal benches without armrests. The heavy security made me a bit nervous at first, but the guards did not bother the travelers at all. The night was mostly quiet until about 5:00am when the first flight departs. A spare jacket or sleeping bag would be preferred due to the draftiness and the hard benches.
Food was easy to come by given the 24hr cafe that is just below the escalator to the sleeping area in the old departure hall. The food was not very good, but at least there was a solid selection of pastas, salads and meat dishes. Free internet is available with any purchase. Plenty of other cafes and restaurants with better tasting food are available during the day on both sides of security.
Catching the bus to the city is easy if you know where to look. Bus 175 to the city center leaves from the lower level under the parking garage (directly below the Marriott Hotel), and is a 25-minute easy ride to Warsaw. Luggage does not cost extra on the bus, however it can get crowded, so the left luggage facility in the basement of the old departure hall is a good option. It is open 24-hours and costs 18 zloty including tax per item per 24 hours.
Given the airport's small size, most airlines (other than LOT) have few departure per day and do not open their check-in counters until exactly 2 hours before the flight.
