Halifax Airport
Lasting Impressions....
"Lesson: Don't skimp! Or, if you do skimp, bring a blanket!!!" (TeaBunny)
"we found out that there's an airport chapel which also had a room with a bed in it. We were offered the bed by a pilot that was passing by." (?)
"Another traveller told us about the chapel, so we went there to try to get some shut-eye. It was comfortable (pews) and quiet, until throngs of university students discovered it too, and turned it into a party room." (Peggy)

A few airport reviews from the archives

I got stranded at Halifax International during the big blizzard in February 2004. The Airport Hotel was booked solid, and there was no possible way of getting any transportation anywhere - the whole airport was completely snowed in. I located a commissionaire who was very friendly and helpful, and I told him I planned to sleep on the horseshoe shaped padded benches in one of the pubs. He said he would keep an eye on me, and directed me to another lone female traveller who was nervous, so we could bunk out in the same location. I slept pretty well with minimal disturbance...the security made an effort to be quiet, and the cleaners didn't tarry too long in our area. I woke up in the morning after 6 hours of sleep, feeling surprisingly refreshed, and a snowplow operator drove me to my car and plowed a path out to the highway for me. I recommend Halifax!"

"I was forced to stay here overnight in the summer of 1996 as a student when I wasn't collected when I arrived after a late flight. I had a terrible night but to be fair this was due to temporary things which just happened to be occurring when I was there! There were building works going on and a pneumatic drill and several hammers kept on throughout the night. Also the fire alarm kept being tested at frequent intervals which added to the fun! I didn't sleep a wink on the bench I was on, but it would be unfair to say that it is therefore always a terrible airport as more recent reviews have proved it is good. I just wish I had realised beforehand as I would given up on sleep put some earplugs in and read a good book instead!"
