Sleeping in Airports

Airport Adventures: Kolkata Airport

We couldn’t even see the airport! You go through a hole in the wall, and a small open bit of park, and then your there.

Right. Kolkata. First of all, to get here by public transport is good fun… a bus runs from dum-dum metro and drops you off on some random street. We couldn’t even see the airport! You go through a hole in the wall, and a small open bit of park, and then your there.

But be prepared. Indian security take the job very seriously and were on a moustache-driven powertrip. Despite having confirmation, they would not let us into the terminal until 2am in the morning. They only did that after a long, arguous argument as one of us didn’t have our confirmation. Once finally in, it was uncomfortable and noisy. Also bright. Cafe is open but expensive.

To top it all off, I visited the filthy toilets and happened to drop my passport in the process. Ignorant to it, some people instructed me to visit some office. I was shocked to receive a 10 minute interrogation as by the airport manager as to whether Pakistani militants had paid me to lose my passport to ‘test their security’.

Dumfounded, I finally recieved my passport and was very glad to leave. Not good juju.
