Airlines in recent years seem to make the news for what they remove from the flying experience–whether seat space, leg room, complimentary food and drink, free luggage handling, carry on luggage, or cheap fares–but every now and then an airline makes the news for adding to the experience.
Air Malta is one such airline, as it launched an in-flight spa treatment on its commercial short-haul flights to and from London’s Gatwick International Airport.
Did we mention that this innovative and exclusive onboard service is free? And we’re not talking about free to First Class or Business Class, as the service is being provided free of charge to all passengers, including those in Economy, making Air Malta the only airline to ever offer such a service to all of its passengers.
The new service was introduced last Friday on Air Malta’s flights 116 and 117 between Malta International Airport and Gatwick Airport. Passengers were welcomed by two professional therapists who handed out various beauty product samples and during the flight provided passengers complimentary hand, foot or neck massages accompanied by soothing music delivered by headphones. Passengers also received a 20 Euro voucher for use at any Myoka Spa in Malta.
Air Malta plans to continue offering the new service on selected flights, and plans to roll out similar features “in the near future aimed at enhancing customer experience and showing that the airline Cares More.”
We here at Sleeping in Airports look forward to hearing more about these new Air Malta amenities when they come online, and hope we’ll be able to report on more new in-flight amenities offered by other airlines.
Perhaps one day we’ll even be able to report that an airline has increased its seat space and leg room without raising fares…or not, but we can always dream.
What do you think about this new service offered by Air Malta?
