the solitary bemused security guard was happy to lock up and let us sleep there, as long as we didn't go near the news stand and cafe which had a motion sensor. -Niall

Airport Overview

To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, we are here to give you the low-down on what travellers have reported back to us during their time at Alta Airport.

What to Expect

  • A small international airport with clean facilities and minimal shopping and dining options.
  • WiFi is available. See WiFi information in the airport guide below.

Where to Sleep

  • Overnight stays are not permitted at this airport, but sleeping travelers are allowed to sleep outside of the airport if necessary. There is a grassy area outside, or you can sleep in the taxi shelter just outside of the airport. The taxi shelter is a small cabin with a roof and an automatic heater that has to be switched on manually every hour if needed. The benches inside are very narrow and uncomfortable, so you may be better off sleeping on the ground. Either way, have a travel mat or sleeping bag handy for added comfort.
  • For uninterrupted sleep, there are hotels near the airport. See Airport Hotels in the airport guide below.
