What to Expect

Aalborg Airport (code: AAL) consists of a two-level, single terminal with arrivals and check-in on the lower level, and security screening and gates on the second level. Snack food is available landside, and there are a couple of eateries and souvenir store on the airside, with open hours based upon the first and last departures of each day. Staff and security are described as pleasant and efficient, and the airport offers free WiFi to help you pass the time. Economy class passengers can pay to use the airport lounge, which also offers food and beverages. See Airport Lounges in the guide below for locations and rates.

Sleeping in Aalborg Airport

The airport is open 24-hours and travellers report that there are plenty of soft benches and secluded nooks conducive to sleeping. or uninterrupted sleep, there is a hotel at the airport and some others nearby. In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. If sleeping in the airport sounds like a nightmare, there is a hotel connected to Aalborg Airport and more hotels nearby.

  • Buhlmann Airport Hotel Aalborg – This hotel is connected to the terminal. As a hotel guest, you can check-in your bag at the airport up to 23 hours prior to departure. Day rooms are available from DKK 525.  » Check Rates

Airport Lounges

Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships

Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there is a lounge that you can enter by paying at the door, purchasing a lounge pass or through a lounge membership program. More Services, Facilities & Things To Do On A Layover At The Airport

 ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? An ATM, operated by Danske Bank, is available. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Location: Landside, Ground Floor, near the Check-In on the ground floor, to the left of Entrance 1. The machine dispenses DKK, USD, and GBP. There are no ATMs available airside.

Children’s Play Areas – Climbing frame, toys, and a TV with cartoons is available in the airport’s soft and colorful play area, located on the 1st floor, above the dining area.

Duty Free & Shopping – A duty-free shop is available airside on the ground floor. Hours: 2 hours before first scheduled flight departure – last scheduled flight departure.

Family Services – Unknown.

Food & Drinks – There are no 24 hour restaurants available; however, these food options are available:

  • Landside: vending machines.
  • Airside: DELI  • Penny Lane • Heineken Gastro Pub

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Not available.

Medical Services – A First-Aid office is available. Location: Landside, Floor 0.

Mobile Charging – In January 2019, a reader let us know that mobile charging can be found throughout the airport, including under the seats at the gates.

Parking – Free Parking is available at Aalborg Airport.

Rest Zones – There are no dedicated sleeping areas, quiet areas or rest zones. If this information has changed, click here to update this guide.

Showers – Not available.

SIM Cards – A reader has asked us to include where to buy SIM Cards. If you know, click here to update this airport guide.

Smoking – Smoking is not permitted inside the airport. The ban also applies to e-cigarettes. You will need to smoke outside the terminal before you proceed through security.

Tax Refund – Repayment of Danish VAT (applied to Danish goods and services up to 25%) can be made only to persons residing outside the European Union, and who have travelled to a non-EU country. The amount may be paid only in Denmark if Denmark is the last EU destination before the final destination. Aalborg Airport is helpful in stamping Danish receipts for the Revenue Service, please inquire.
