To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Bissau Airport.
What to Expect
Bissau Airport consists of a tiny terminal with just three gates. Security queues are slow and outdated, so arrive early for peace of mind. Facilities are lacking, with few modern conveniences – there aren’t even digital flight displays. Mosquitoes are common, so pack repellant. It seems there is a small cafe/bar, open until the last flight. Otherwise, there are no shops, WiFi, or airport lounges.
Where to Sleep
The terminal seems to have a few rows of bucket seats, which aren’t exactly comfortable for sleeping. Overnight campers may have better luck on the floor or even outside – just remember the mosquitoes. For uninterrupted sleep, hotels are nearby. See our Airport Hotels section below for more info.
In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.
There are no lounges available.

Several car rental agencies are located on-site. No further information is available.
Shared-ride taxis and minibuses are readily available in the ground transportation area of the airport. A reader (June 2018) suggests that the minibuses (tocatocas) are not so comfortable and more importantly, have limited space for luggage if you are not travelling light.
