GYE Airport Overview
To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Guayaquil José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport.
What to Expect
The facilities at Guayaquil Airport (code: GYE) are housed in a single-terminal building with domestic and international departures. The airport features a nice selection of airside and landside shops, restaurants, and services and the staff are described as warm and welcoming. Several eateries remain open 24 hours, and free WiFi is available. For additional comfort while you wait, passengers can purchase entry into one of the airport lounges, with one of them featuring showers. See Airport Lounges in the guide below for location and hours.
Sleeping in Guayaquil Airport
Airport staff are generally tolerant of overnight sleepers and there are reports that travellers may be able to borrow pillows. The airport is described as safe, clean, relatively quiet, and with lots of seating, including armrest-free furniture conducive to stretching out, and reports of comfortable couches in the arrivals area. The terminal can get chilly, so bring extra clothes layers or a travel blanket. For uninterrupted sleep, there are several hotels (some with shuttle service) nearby. See locations in the Airport Hotels section below or read some traveller airport reviews for more tips.
