I had to bribe my way out of a few situations in the baggage screening room. They will discretely bribe you for money. Once, I gave this guy some cash, he opened his wallet to put it away and I saw his wallet full of different currencies (US $, Canadian $, Euros). I’m certain bribes happen often. – Nicole
SGN Airport Overview
To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down of what travellers have reported to us during their time at Ho Chi Minh City Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
What to Expect
Ho Chi Minh City Airport (Code: SGN) consists of two terminals: domestic (T1) and international (T2). T1 was renovated in 2018 and has generally nicer facilities than T2’s. Work on a third terminal that will serve Domestic flights is currently in progress. Recent improvements have made security lines better than in the past, and the staff doesn’t take issue with overnight guests. Flights depart around the clock, so travellers are around all night. A few restaurants are open 24 hours a day. Free WiFi is available to help pass the time. For those looking for a little added comfort, there are lounges open to all types of travellers, one of which has showers.
Sleeping in Ho Chi Minh City Airport
Ho Chi Minh City Airport has some decent places to sleep overnight. Landside areas in the International Terminal have the best options. The first floor doesn’t have much seating, but it is quiet, while the Wellwishers Gallery on the third floor has much more seating. Many travellers spend the night here, meaning this place is noisier (March 2013). Once cafes and restaurants close, travellers had success moving chairs and benches around for more comfortable resting – some even saw airport staff doing this too. Both terminals are hot, and the air conditioner seems weak. The International terminal also has a sleep zone with sleep chairs and paid sleep pods. For uninterrupted sleep, hotels near the airport provide airport transportation. See locations in the Airport Hotels section below.

To help us keep this guide up-to-date, you can add or update information or write a review to submit airport tips and photos.
In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.
Airport Hours
Tan Son Nhat Airport operates 24 hours, with landside access available overnight in both the Domestic (T1) and International (T2) terminals. Security checkpoints generally remain open overnight to accommodate late-night and early-morning departures, though staffing levels may be reduced. Airside stays require a valid boarding pass.
Rest & Relaxation Zones
There are no dedicated sleeping areas, quiet areas or rest zones. Paid sleep pods are available. If this information has changed, click here to update this guide.

Food & Drinks
Ho Chi Minh City Airport has plenty of cafés and restaurants during the day, but very few options reliably stay open overnight. The airport does not publish confirmed 24-hour dining hours, and most food outlets close late evening and reopen in the morning. Do not assume hot meals will be available overnight.
One exception frequently reported by travellers is Highlands Coffee in the International Terminal (Arrivals Hall), which is often open 24 hours for coffee and light snacks, though this is not officially guaranteed. All other food courts, fast food, and sit-down restaurants generally operate on daytime and evening schedules only.
Overnight tip: Bring snacks if you’ll be at the airport late, or consider lounge access for food and drinks if available.

Luggage Storage & Lockers
Luggage storage services are available 24 hours in both terminals:
- T1 (Domestic): Landside, Level 1, near Arrivals
- T2 (International): Landside, Level 1, near Arrivals
Rates: Approximately VND 50,000–100,000 (USD 2–4) per item, per day.
Mobile Charging
Charging availability varies by terminal.
- Domestic Terminal (T1), travellers report several free charging points in public waiting areas, and access is generally better than in the international terminal.
- International Terminal (T2), Airside, public charging options are limited and inconsistent. Travellers report that usable power outlets are mainly found inside airport lounges or in a few designated areas rather than throughout the terminal.
Important: Do not rely on finding an outlet airside in T2. Bring a power bank, especially if you plan to stay overnight or use sleep pods.
Showers
Free showers are available in the International Terminal (T2), Airside, opposite Gate 25, with two male and two female shower rooms. Availability may depend on cleaning schedules and passenger volume. Free public showers are not always clearly signed; ask staff if you cannot locate them.
Showers are also available inside select airport lounges, including:
- Apricot Business Lounge
- Le Saigonnais Business Lounge
WiFi / Internet
Free unlimited WiFi is available at Tan Son Nhat Airport. Connect to the “SGN Free WiFi” network. No registration is required.
Security & Safety
Sleeping in any airport can include a certain level of risk, especially when travelling alone. It’s important to take certain precautions to ensure your safety and the security of your valuables. Here are a few tips:
- Safety First. It’s a good idea to know where the security office is located and look for video cameras where you plan to sleep. You can also ask the security personnel for advice on the safest places to spend the night.
- Don’t Seclude Yourself. If you’re travelling alone, we recommend you stay near other travellers or close to security. This will help you feel more secure and deter potential thieves.
- Hide Your Valuables. It’s also important to hide your valuables. Don’t leave them out in plain view, as this could make you a target for theft. Additionally, if you are a deep sleeper, you may want to padlock your bag to something or sleep with your bag up against a wall to make it harder for someone to access zippers and pockets. We have received reports of sleepers who woke up without their phones and laptop bags. The travellers were left with just their headphones and laptop bag strap.
- Stay Alert. It’s best to stay alert and awake if you feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Drink coffee or other caffeinated beverages to help you stay awake, and remember that you can always catch up on sleep during your flight. These simple precautions can help you enjoy a safe night at the airport.
