To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Gran Canaria Airport (code: LPA).

What to Expect

las palmas airport guideGran Canaria Airport’s single terminal has been recently expanded to better accommodate European, African, and seasonal flights. The terminal has four zones: A for inter-island destinations, B and C for flights within the Schengen zone, and D for non-Schengen zone flights. Amenities include free WiFi, shops, a grocery store, and a variety of eateries (two are open 24 hours). For added comfort while you wait, economy class passengers can pay to enter an airport lounge. Sleeping Gran Canaria Airport

Overnight sleepers report feeling safe and unbothered overnight. Padded, armrest-free seating is plentiful and both lights and announcements are turned down at night. Bright a blanket or dress in layers to cope with chilly temperatures. For uninterrupted sleep, nearby hotels offer shuttle service. In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there is a lounge that you can enter by paying at the door, purchasing a lounge pass or through a lounge membership program. ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Machines are operated by Banco Santander, Caixa Bank, and Euronet. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: Floor 0 (Arrivals Hall) • Floor 1 (Departures Hall, landside • Airside, A19-A21 • Airside, Gates B5-B6).

Chapel – A non-denominal Christian chapel is available airside in the Departures area on Floor 2.

Children’s Play Area – When you want to ensure your kids burn off all their energy before their flight, take them to the children’s play area. Locations: Floor 1, airside, in the “A” gates boarding area • Floor 1, airside, in the “C” gates boarding area.

Currency Exchange – Two Exact Change currency exchange kiosks are available. Locations: Floor 0 (Arrivals Hall. Hours: 8:00AM – 10:00PM) • Floor 1 (Boarding Area, airside. Hours: 6:00AM – 8:00PM).

Duty Free & Shopping – Canariensis offers duty-free shopping to both departing and arriving passengers, with two airside locations on Floor 1 (Departures) and one airside location on Floor 0 (Arrivals). In addition, a variety of retail and gift shops can be found throughout the airport including 4 locations of Hudson News for any last minute items.

Family Services – A comfy place providing privacy for breastfeeding and baby change facilities is available. The area includes sinks, recliner chairs, kids play area and a room to prepare baby food. Location: Airside, Floor 1, near Gates C.

Food & Drinks – Food concessions throughout the airport operate with varying schedules. None are open 24 hours.

Grocery Store – Spar offers a wide variety of hot and cold sandwiches, take-away meals and general groceries in a location accessible to both transit passengers and arriving passengers. Location: Arrivals Hall, airside, Floor 0. Hours: 8:00AM – 10:00PM (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Sun) • 8:30AM – 10:00PM (Wed) • 8:00AM – 11:00PM (Fri-Sat).

Information Desk – Need help finding your way? There are few information desks located on Floor 1 (Departure hall), Floor 2 (Parking ) and Floor 0 (Passenger Terminal).

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Not available.

Luggage Wrapping – Luggage wrapping machines are available in the Check-in area on Floor 1. Fee: unknown.

Medical Services – Urgent and emergency medical care is available 24 hours a day at the First Aid station, located on Floor 0 in the Departures Hall.

Mobile Charging –  A reader (August 2018) tells us that power charging stations are available at a few of the gate areas.  On the landside, another reader was only able to find a working outlets near the fire hoses. (March 2024)

Pharmacy – Location: Floor 1, Landside. Hours: 6:00AM – 7:30PM (Mon – Fri) and 8:00AM – 8:00PM (Sat & Sun).

Post Office – Send your last minute postcards to friends and family from the airport’s mailbox. Location: Departures Hall, Floor 0. Hours: 8:30AM – 2:30PM (Mon-Fri).

Rest Zones – There are no dedicated sleeping areas, quiet areas or rest zones. If this information has changed, click here to update this guide.

Showers – Not available.

SIM Cards – A reader has asked us to include where to buy SIM Cards. If you know, click here to update this airport guide.

Smoking – Submitted by a traveller (April 2019). Once you are Airside, look for a set of elevators (near the center of the Terminal) which take you to the upper level where there is a full service bar and restaurant with outdoor terrace and smoking area.

Travel Agency – El Corte Travel Agency is located at Floor 1, check in area.

A reader tells us, “the main terminal at LPA Gran Canaria airport is closed to the public during the night from 12:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m.” (January 2024)

The airport is served by eight different intercity bus routes. Whether you are staying in the capital city, heading to Maspalomas or Playa del Inglés there are a variety of options to get you around the island. For fares, routes and schedule information, visit the Las Palmas Airport website.
