To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Malmö Airport.

What to Expect

Malmö Airport (code: MMX) has a small but busy terminal that handles regional and seasonal flights. You’ll find a few basic shops and eateries, though none are open 24 hours, so plan ahead for snacks and drinks. Free WiFi is available to help pass the time. For added comfort while you wait, economy class passengers can pay to enter an airport lounge. See Airport Lounges in the guide below for location and access information.

Sleeping in Malmö Airport

Overnight campers generally have no problems here. Look for couches and armrest-free benches in the main hall. The airport tends to be quiet, but bring earplugs just in case. For uninterrupted sleep, one hotel is located at the airport and others are nearby. See the Airport Hotels section below for locations or read some traveller airport reviews for more tips.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airport Lounges

Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships

Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there is a lounge that you can enter by purchasing a lounge pass or through a lounge membership program. Visit the individual lounge page for more details about the lounge itself and to also find out how you can gain lounge access with just an economy class ticket!

Airline Lounges

The SAS operated “Cafe Lounge” provides an atmosphere designed so that passengers can work in peace and quiet or relax. There is free Wi-Fi available as well as light refreshments. The SAS Café Lounge at Malmö Airport, with about 70 square metres of space, is located close to the exits for SAS’s domestic flights. The lounge is open to passengers in SAS Plus as well as Gold and Diamond members in SAS’s EuroBonus programme. For more information, check the airline’s web site.

Airport Hotels

If sleeping in the airport sounds like a nightmare, there is hotels near Malmö Airport.

Airport WiFi/Internet

Free WiFi is available at Malmö Airport for 3 hours or 100mb. You may purchase for an additional 1 hour/SEK49 or 24 hour/SEK129. Connect to the “Airport-Guest” network.

If you do not have a mobile device, you will find Internet stations. Locations: Landside, Check-in Hall, next to 7-Eleven and Airside, near the restaurant.

More Services, Facilities & Things To Do On A Layover At The Airport

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Location: Landside and Airside. The Airside location has a Forex ATM which dispenses Euros, British Sterling and Turkish lira.

Baby Care Facilities – All restrooms have baby-changing facilities. Loaner strollers are available for use in the airport, and can be picked up at the Information Desk.

Children’s Play Area – When you want to ensure your kids burn off all their energy before their flight, take them to the children’s play area. Location: Airside, at the Espresso House.

Conference Room – A meeting room is available for rent. Location: Airside.  Hours: 9:00AM – 4:00PM.

Currency Exchange – Travel Money offers currency exchange landside, near the main entrance of the terminal. A Forex Bank ATM offers currency exchange airside near Gate 4.

Duty Free & Shopping – Duty Free Store is open airside for all departing flights. In addition to the Duty Free Store, the airport has a 7-Eleven, Pressbyrån, and a WHSmith.

Food & Drinks – Food concessions in the airport operate on varying schedules with at least one location landside and airside being open according to daily flight schedules. At the time of this update, there are no 24-hour dining options, but snacks can be purchased early morning or late night at the 7-Eleven. Vending machines are also available.

Information Desk – There is a visitor centre located Landside which may be of assistance. Hours: 6:00AM – 8:00PM (Mon – Fri & Sun) and 6:00AM – 6:00PM (Sat).

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Luggage lockers are available in a variety of sizes. Luggage can be stored for up to 30 days. Location and rates: Landside, lower level.

Mobile Charging – A reader tells us that you can find power outlets in front of the 7eleven.

Rest Zones – There are no dedicated sleeping areas, quiet areas or rest zones. If this information has changed, click here to update this guide.

Smoking Areas – Smoking is permitted in designated areas, near Gate 7 and 4.

Airport Transportation: Getting To/From The Airport

Bus

Flygbussarna airport buses offer service between MMX airport and central stations in Malmö and Lund, with stops along the way. Tickets are sold online, at self-service ticket machines, third party vendors and onboard (credit card only). Neptunbus offers direct service to Copenhagen, with 3 – 4 daily departures scheduled to coordinate with all of Wizz Air’s flights. Tickets must be booked three days in advance.

Car Rentals

The following car rental agencies are available onsite, next to the multi-storey car park: Avis • Budget • Europcar • Hertz • Sixt. Sunfleet carsharing service is also available at the airport.

Taxi

Both metered and fixed-price taxis are available directly outside the airport. Fixed-price taxi rates vary per taxi company. If you pick a taxi with fixed rates, be sure that the fare is entered and visible on the taxi meter before your ride starts.
