The benches are nice, with good cushion and no armrest. But remember to bring eye-mask, ear-plug and sleeping bag to ensure a good sleep. – Atom
To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Falcone Borsellino (Palermo) International Airport.
What to Expect
Palermo Airport consists of a small terminal with a dozen expensive eateries and shops, located primarily on the airside. WiFi is available and there are plenty of outlets for charging mobile devices. Additional comfort can be found through fee-based access to the airport’s first class lounge. See Airport Lounges in the airport guide below.
Where to Sleep
Travellers report feeling safe in this airport and that airport staff are generally accommodating to overnight sleepers. There is plenty of comfortable, armrest-free seating and benches, but reviewers are mixed about other elements that help or hinder sleep, with some finding the airport noisy and bright, while others said it was quiet with dim overnight lighting. Perhaps it’s a case of finding the right spot in the terminal. A reader (April 2019) suggests heading to the 3rd Floor, where they enjoyed a quiet night (at least until 5:00AM) on “chairs that you can lie on”. For uninterrupted sleep, there are hotels near the airport. See Airport Hotels in the airport guide below.
In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.
Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships
Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there is a lounge that you can enter by purchasing a lounge pass or through a lounge membership program (ie. Priority Pass). Visit the individual lounge page for more details about the lounge itself and to also find out how you can gain lounge access with just an economy class ticket!
