Whether you have a layover, overnight sleepover or you are just quickly passing through, our Paris Orly Airport Guide is a great place to start planning your visit.  Here, you’ll find information on services and facilities available inside the airport – including details about airport lounges, WiFi, mobile charging points, lockers, 24-hour food options, nearby hotels, and everything in between.

The worst part was that there is no luggage storage, and I was forced by the janitorial staff to bring all my luggage into the bathroom stall with me. I had just come back from six months living abroad, and had about 70 pounds of very bulky luggage, and the stall was very small.   – peacefrog

ORY Airport Overview

To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down of what travellers have reported to us during their time at Paris Orly Airport (Code: ORY).

What to Expect

  • Paris’ second international airport, Orly is much smaller and home to primarily European/northern African flights.
  • The airport has four terminals: 1 and 2 are connected and offer a gate area of “four fingers”, 3 opened in April 2019 and 4 is the biggest terminal with six floors. All are connected and under one roof.
  • WiFi is available to help pass the time.
  • Economy-class travellers can buy a pass and relax in several airport lounges.

Sleeping in Orly Airport

The airport may close at night for a few hours, though you can remain if you’re already inside before closing time. Be safe by having a backup plan ready.

What seating exists is mostly fit with armrests, making it difficult to get comfortable. Get creative to prop yourself up or spread out on the floor for some decent shuteye – you won’t be the only person to do so! If you’re sleeping in the landside/public zones, the seating is much more limited, so bring an extra layer or cushion for the floor.

Here are good sleep spots that travellers have reported:

  • Try sleeping on the couches and benches inside cafes, especially once they close around 9:00 PM.
  • There’s a hallway just before Halls 3 and 4 with a few chairs offering a little privacy.
  • Landside, many people sleep in Terminal 1-2 on Floor 1.
  • In Terminal 4, landside, the check-in counters 15-17 are suitable for sleeping on the floor.

For uninterrupted sleep, there are hotels near the airport. See the Airport Hotels section below for locations.

Read the latest traveller airport reviews for more tips. For more airport information, continue scrolling down to explore more in our Paris Orly Airport Guide.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.

Airport Hours

Paris Orly Airport is generally open from 3:30 AM to 12:30 AM. Overnight stays are discouraged, and travellers may be asked to leave the terminal at closing time. According to the airport’s official guidance on spending the night, passengers who can show proof of a departing flight (such as a boarding pass or booking confirmation) may be permitted to remain, but this is not guaranteed and depends on staff discretion and operational conditions.

Rest & Relaxation Zones

There are no dedicated sleeping areas, quiet areas or rest zones. If this information has changed, click here to update this guide.

Cots

Paris Orly Airport is periodically affected by weather disruptions and transportation strikes. During mass flight cancellations, the airport or airlines may provide cots for stranded passengers who are unable or unwilling to leave for a hotel. Availability varies, and cots are typically set up in designated areas during large-scale disruptions.

Cots cannot be reserved in advance and are not provided for passengers who arrive early or plan to sleep overnight by choice. To ask about availability during disruptions, speak with airline staff, airport personnel, or use a courtesy phone.

Security & Safety

At the time of this update, we have no reports from travellers commenting on safety issues at Paris Orly Airport. Airport staff seem to be okay with sleepers and overnight campers. Several travellers mentioned feeling safer thanks to security patrolling the terminal at night.

Sleeping in any airport can include a certain level of risk, especially when travelling alone. It’s essential to take certain precautions to ensure your safety and the security of your valuables. Here are a few tips:

  • Safety First. It’s a good idea to know where the security office is and look for video cameras where you plan to sleep. You can also ask the security personnel for advice on the safest places to spend the night.
  • Don’t Seclude Yourself. If you’re travelling alone, we recommend you stay near other travellers or close to security. This will help you feel more secure and deter potential thieves.
  • Hide Your Valuables. It’s also important to hide your valuables. Please don’t leave them out in plain view, as this could make you a target for theft. Additionally, if you are a deep sleeper, you may want to padlock your bag to something or sleep with your bag up against a wall to make it harder for someone to access zippers and pockets. We have received reports of sleepers who awoke without their phones and laptop bags. The travellers were left with just their headphones and laptop bag strap.
  • Stay Alert. It’s best to stay alert and awake if you feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Drink coffee or other caffeinated beverages to help you stay sharp, and remember that you can always catch up on sleep during your flight. These simple precautions can help you enjoy a safe night at the airport.

Pro-tip: If you sleep in the public zone, don’t be surprised if you receive an early morning wake-up call. Security is known to make the rounds, waking people up as travellers arrive for morning flights.
