To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down of what travellers have reported to us during their time at São Paulo Guarulhos Airport.
What to Expect
- The airport has three terminals, T1, T2, and T3. T1 is the smallest, operating only direct flights, and connected to T2 and T3 by shuttle bus. T2 is the largest, and is connected to the new, modern T3 by walkway. T2 houses regional and Latin American destinations, and T3 is home to longer-haul international flights.
- Other than T3, the airport is fairly old and its facilities and amenities reflect that.
- Many travellers felt that the airport is poorly laid out, with a lot of confusing hallways.
- Free WiFi is available. See WiFi information in the airport guide below.
- Economy class travellers can buy entry to several airport lounges; some have shower facilities. See Airport Lounges in the airport guide below for locations and rates.
Where to Sleep
- Most travellers reported very few seating areas to spend the night – most are benches with armrests, though it sounds like T3 might be a little bit more comfortable.
- A reader (2019) mentioned an area in T3 with benches that have no arms and a “plastic-like” flooring which helped warm up the floor a bit. Washrooms and outlets for charging your devices were also close by!
- Travellers report that airport staff generally don’t mind overnight guests. However, there might be safety concerns as one traveller reports seeing groups of young non-travellers hanging around the airport. Stay alert! (Oct 2016)
- Try the chairs at Starbucks.
- The floor has little or no carpeting, so bring something soft if you plan on crashing on it.
- Explore our guide to sleeping in Guarulhos Airport or read some traveller reviews for more tips.
- For uninterrupted sleep, there is a transit hotel and sleep cabins inside the airport as well as several nearby hotels that provide airport shuttles. See Airport Hotels in the airport guide below.
In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.
