What to Expect

  • A small, but modern single-terminal international airport with a very limited selection of shops and restaurants.

Where to Sleep

  • Overnight stays are not permitted in this airport.
  • For uninterrupted sleep, there are hotels near the airport. See Airport Hotels in the airport guide below.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.

Airport Lounges

Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships

Regardless of what class of service you are flying, there is a lounge that you can enter by paying at the door, purchasing a lounge pass or through a lounge membership program (ie. Priority Pass). Visit the individual lounge page for more details about the lounge itself and to also find out how you can gain lounge access with just an economy class ticket!

Airport Hotels

If sleeping in Southampton Airport does not appeal to you, there are hotels near the airport:

Airport WiFi/Internet

Free WiFi is available at Southampton Airport for 4 hours. Connect to the “Free SOU Airport” network. Beyond that time you can purchase more time for £3 (1 hour) • £5 (3 hours) • £9 (24 hours). There are also Internet-connected PCs available Landside and Airside.

More Services, Facilities & Things To Do On A Layover At The Airport

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Some machines dispense euros. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations:
» Landside: main concourse, next to the Moneycorp bureau de change and next to the help desk.
» Airside: lower level of the departure lounge, next to WDF.

Baggage Trolleys – Need a hand with your luggage? Baggage trolleys are available free of charge.

Currency Exchange – Location: Landside, Moneycorp bureau de change, Main concourse, next to WHSmith. Hours: 5:00AM – 7:00PM (Mon-Sat); 5:30AM – 7:00PM (Sun).

Duty Free & Shopping – Duty Free is available as well as a WH Smith.

Food & Drinks – There are no 24-food options.

Information Desk – It is not known if there is desk available; however, the airport has ambassadors available to assist.

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Location: Landside, Servisair Desk. Rates: £6.00/bag/day.

Medical Services – The airport has qualified first aiders. Reach out to a staff member if you need help.

Mobile Charging – If you need to recharge or power your electronics, there are a few locations that provide free power sockets. Locations: at the desks in the departure lounge, The Globe and The Olive Tree also have power sockets for your convenience.

Post Office – A mailbox is available near the short term car park. Stamps are available at WHSmith.

Rest Zones – Not available.

Showers – Not available.

Smoking Areas – There is a designated smoking area located outside on the central forecourt. Smoking is prohibited anywhere inside the terminal, both before and after security.

Viewing Areas – If you want to watch the aircraft, there is a viewing area on the upper level of the departure lounge in Costa Coffee that overlooks the runway.

Airport Transportation: Getting To/From The Airport

Bus

A few local and regional bus lines serve the airport. Uni-link buses link the airport to the city center through bus lines U1C (going from airport to city) and U1A (going from city to airport).

Car Rentals

These car rental agencies offer service onsite: Alamo • Avis • Budget • Enterprise • Europcar • Hertz • National.

Taxi

Metered taxis are readily available for hire in the ground transportation area of the airport. If you wish, you can pay for your journey before boarding a taxi if you stop at the Checker Cars taxi booth in the Arrivals Hall.

Train

Connected to the airport by footbridge, Southampton Airport Parkway Station offers speedy train service connections to Southampton city center, London Waterloo, Reading, Winchester, and more.
