NYO Airport Overview

To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Stockholm Skavsta Airport.

What to Expect

The basic terminal at Stockholm Skavsta Airport (code: NYO) primarily handles low-cost carriers. Landside facilities include a cafe and a newsstand, and an eatery and a duty-free shop comprise the airside options, though travellers warn of expensive prices. No options are open 24 hours, so plan ahead for late-night snacks. WiFi is free for only 30 minutes. Economy class passengers can pay to enter an airport lounge. See Airport Lounges in the guide below for location and access information.

Sleeping in Skavsta Airport

Overnight sleepers are common here, though they are restricted to the landside area once security checkpoints close for the night. The few benches fill up quickly, so arrive early or sleep on the cold floor with a sleeping bag or travel mat. Some travellers have luck resting in the children’s play area or on furniture inside the closed cafe. Bring a sweater or extra blanket to combat chilly temps. For uninterrupted sleep, a budget hotel is located just beyond the terminal. See the Airport Hotels section below for locations or read some traveller airport reviews for more tips.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.  For more information on Europe’s Schengen Area, click here.
