What to Expect

svalbard longyear airport guideSvalbard Longyear Airport (code: LYR) has a small terminal that serves the Svalbard Islands and mainland Norway. Facilities are limited to a snack bar and two shops. WiFi is free for for two-hour sessions, but you can log in repeatedly.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Free WiFi is available at Svalbard Airport for 4 hours. Connect to the “Airport Free WiFi” network. Simply log in again after your 4 hours expires. Alternatively you can pay for an upgraded service.

Airport Transportation: Getting To/From The Airport

Bus

An airport bus is available for all departures and arrivals, connecting passengers to the city center with stops at hotels along the way. At the time of this update, the fare is NOK 75 for the 15 minute ride.

Car Rental

Arctic Autorrent offers car rental services onsite.

Taxis

Metered taxis are readily available for hire in the ground transportation area. A one-way journey between the airport and the city center takes only five minutes and costs approximately NOK 200.
