Sleeping in Abu Dhabi Airport has improved significantly since the opening of Terminal A. Recent traveller reviews describe a clean, modern terminal with several comfortable places to stretch out, although the best couches and loungers are limited and can fill up during busy periods. The airport’s “silent airport” policy also helps create a calmer atmosphere than many major hubs. Whether you’re waiting through a long layover, an overnight stay, or a delayed flight, you have a reasonable chance of getting some rest if you know where to look.

Can You Sleep in Abu Dhabi Airport Overnight?

Yes. Abu Dhabi Airport remains open 24 hours, and overnight stays are common, particularly in Terminal A after security. Based on recent traveller reviews, the airside departures area offers the best chance of finding comfortable seating, while landside options are much more limited than they were in the past.

If you’re staying overnight, head through security if possible. Recent traveller reports describe several areas with couches and loungers that allow you to stretch out, although they are popular and may already be occupied during busy travel periods. If you’re looking for uninterrupted sleep or have an especially long layover, the airport’s transit hotel may be a better choice.

Sleepability Verdict

Good: Recent traveller reviews suggest Abu Dhabi Airport is one of the better airports in the region for sleeping. Several areas offer couches, loungers and armrest-free seating, and the airport’s quiet atmosphere helps make resting easier. Bright lighting, limited numbers of comfortable seats and inconsistent access to power outlets keep it from earning a higher rating.

Just make sure you have something to cover your eyes… you won’t be annoyed by speaker announcements because it’s a ‘silent airport’.” (Traveller review, March 2024)

Traveller Reality Check

Based on recent Sleeping in Airports traveller reviews, these are the most frequently reported advantages and drawbacks of sleeping at Abu Dhabi Airport.

Sleep Advantages

  • Several areas with couches, loungers and armrest-free seating.
  • Quiet atmosphere helped by the airport’s silent announcement policy.
  • Modern, spacious terminal.
  • 24-hour food and drink options available.
  • Recent traveller reviews generally describe the airport as feeling safe overnight.
  • Showers are available.

Sleep Drawbacks

  • Bright lighting throughout much of the terminal.
  • Power outlets are available in some seating areas but limited elsewhere.
  • Some gate areas remain busy with people walking past.
  • Landside seating offers few comfortable sleeping options.

Best Places to Sleep

If you’re looking for somewhere to sleep, head to Terminal A after security. Most of the airport’s best couches and loungers are found around the lower-level E and F gates, with another good option between Gates C27 and C29. Elsewhere, comfortable seating is more limited, so it’s worth arriving early if you want one of the better spots.

Terminal A, Airside, Lower Level, Gates E & F

This is the airport’s most consistently recommended sleeping area. Recent traveller reviews describe numerous loungers and couches where you can stretch out comfortably. Although people continue walking to and from the gates, this level is generally quieter than the main departures level. Couches between the escalators and in front of the large windows offer a little more privacy.

Terminal A, Airside, Between Gates C27 and C29

Recent reviews identify several comfortable couches beside the charging stations between Gates C27 and C29. Seating here is limited, so you may need to arrive early to secure a spot.

Terminal A, Airside, Quiet Gate Areas

Some travellers have reported getting several hours of uninterrupted sleep near quieter gates that were not being used overnight. Availability varies depending on flight schedules, but it may be worth checking less busy gate areas if the main sleeping spots are full.

Avoid: Terminal A, Landside, Arrivals

Older reviews recommended the seating near Baggage Belts 8 and 9. However, recent traveller reports indicate those couches have been removed, and people attempting to sleep there may be asked to move. This area is no longer recommended as one of the airport’s better sleeping options.

Food Available Overnight

Recent traveller reviews confirm that food and drinks are available throughout the night, although some travellers feel overnight dining choices are limited in parts of the terminal. You shouldn’t have trouble finding something to eat during an overnight stay, but your options may be fewer than during the daytime.

Showers

Showers are available at Abu Dhabi Airport through selected lounges and sleep facilities.

  • Terminal A, Airside, Main Departures Area – Shower facilities are available in selected lounges.
  • Terminal A, Airside, Near Concourse D – The transit hotel offers private rooms with en-suite bathrooms and shower facilities.

Availability, fees, and access requirements may change, so verify details upon arrival.

Airport Lounges

Abu Dhabi Airport’s lounges do not offer dedicated sleep facilities such as sleep pods, sleep cabins or private sleeping rooms. However, several lounges provide comfortable seating, showers, food, drinks and a quieter environment than the public terminal, making them a good option if you need a few hours of rest during a long layover.
