Overview
Sleeping in Alicante Airport is possible, but finding somewhere to stretch out can be a challenge, especially if you arrive late at night. The airport is open 24 hours, and travellers regularly spend the night in the public areas before security. Armrest-free benches make it possible to lie down, although the better spots can fill up quickly. For daytime naps and long layovers, seating is available throughout the terminal. Overnight, the main drawbacks are cleaning noise, limited seating, occasional security checks and other travellers competing for the same benches. If you’re already airside, don’t count on staying there all night. Travellers have been asked to move back to the public area when security closes.
95% of the seats were already occupied, I walked everywhere twice and could see quite a few fellow backpackers stressing looking for a seat.” (Traveller review, September 2026)
Can You Sleep in Alicante Airport Overnight?
Yes. Alicante Airport is open 24 hours, and travellers have reported spending the night in the terminal, particularly in the public departures and arrivals areas before security. However, overnight access to the airside area is restricted. In November 2024, a traveller reported being woken by security officers and told to move landside because the airside area was closing. An earlier March 2024 review described being told the airport was closing and that re-entry would not be possible until 4:00 AM. More recent reviews from 2025 and September 2026 confirm that travellers continue to spend the night landside. Keep your boarding pass handy in case security asks to see it.
Sleepability Verdict
Sleepability: Tolerable
Alicante has one important advantage for airport sleepers: plenty of seating without dividing armrests. If you find an empty row, you can stretch out rather than trying to sleep upright. The problem is availability. A September 2026 traveller arriving at 1:00 AM found almost every seat occupied. Cleaning crews, maintenance work and other overnight activity can also interrupt sleep, while the closure of the airside area limits your options. Conditions are not universally bad. Some travellers have described peaceful nights, comfortable temperatures and relatively dim lighting after the last flights. Others have struggled with noise, staff interruptions and feeling uncomfortable sleeping alone. The bottom line: Alicante is manageable for an overnight stay if you arrive early enough to claim a bench. Arriving after midnight without a sleeping mat could leave you facing a night on the floor.

Best Places to Sleep
Alicante has one main passenger terminal, with sleeping options before and after security. For overnight stays, focus on the public areas. If you’re staying during the day, you can also look for seating near your departure gate.

The departures hall is one of the more dependable areas for overnight travellers. Several reviews describe passengers sleeping across rows of armrest-free seats. A June 2025 traveller found plenty of fellow sleepers here and was able to remain overnight without being disturbed, apart from a boarding pass check.
The main problem is competition for seating. In September 2026, almost all available seats were occupied by 1:00 AM. Arrive earlier if you want a row long enough to lie down.
Seating: Armrest-free benches, limited availability late at night
Noise: Overnight cleaning and general terminal activity
Temperature: Comfortable in a June 2025 review
Power: Limited sockets reported in September 2026
Terminal, Landside, Arrivals Hall
The arrivals hall has been a popular alternative, particularly for travellers looking for somewhere quieter than departures. Past reviews mention armrest-free benches and areas away from the main flow of passengers. One traveller found a relatively quiet place to sleep here in February 2023 but moved upstairs after repeated unwanted approaches from another person. The arrivals hall is worth checking, especially if departures is full, but choose a spot where you feel comfortable.
Seating: Armrest-free benches
Noise: Variable, with occasional overnight maintenance
Lighting: Some areas become dimmer after the last flights
Terminal, Landside, Corridor Beyond Baggage Claim
Past airport sleeper tips mention a large corridor reached by turning left after leaving baggage claim. Travellers described seating in an area where lights were switched off overnight, making it easier to rest. This is an older sleeping recommendation without a recent confirmation of the seating arrangement. It may still be worth checking if the main arrivals and departures areas are crowded.
Seating: Chairs reported in earlier reviews
Lighting: Previously reported as dim overnight
Armrest-free seating is also available after security, and a November 2024 traveller mentioned finding charging facilities here. These areas may be useful for a daytime nap or while waiting for a delayed flight. However, the same traveller was woken by security and told to move landside when the airside area closed. Do not plan an uninterrupted overnight sleep here.
Seating: Armrest-free seats
Noise: Variable, with complaints about overnight activity
Power: Charging facilities reported
What About Sleeping on the Floor?
Floor sleeping is a fallback when the benches are occupied. Past traveller reviews mention settling into quieter corners, although the recent September 2026 review suggests that finding an empty bench is increasingly difficult late at night. Bring a compact sleeping mat or sleeping bag if you expect to arrive after midnight. Avoid walkways and areas needed for cleaning or airport operations.
Airport Sleeper Essentials
Cots
Alicante Airport does not provide cots for stranded travellers.
Food Available Overnight
There are 24-hour food options at Alicante Airport, but what you can reach depends on whether you’re before or after security.
Landside – Before Security
Deli&Cia – Arrivals, Floor 0, public area. Open 24 hours, selling sandwiches, snacks, salads and drinks.
Vending machines are also available around the terminal.
Airside – After Security
Costa Coffee – Departures, Floor 2. Open 24 hours.
Pret a Manger – Departures, Floor 2, passenger-only area. Open 24 hours. The separate South Dock location closes at 11:00 PM.
Although these airside outlets operate 24 hours, they may not be accessible if you’re required to move landside overnight.
A June 2025 traveller complained about the high prices and poor quality of the overnight food they found. Bringing snacks and water is a sensible precaution, particularly if you plan to sleep before security.
Luggage Storage
PV21 provides luggage storage in the public departures area on Floor 2. The left-luggage office is open daily from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, so it is not a practical option for storing bags throughout an overnight sleepover. Keep your luggage immediately beside you or secured to you while sleeping.
Showers
There are no public shower facilities at Alicante Airport. The Costa Blanca VIP Lounge does not currently list showers among its facilities.
Airport Hotels, Sleep Pods & Cabins
Alicante Airport does not have an in-terminal hotel, sleep pods or sleeping cabins. If you’d rather book a room, several hotels are located a short distance from the airport.
Hampton by Hilton Alicante Airport
(1.3 mi / 2.1 km) Mid-range hotel.
Hostal Pensimar
(1.4 mi / 2.3 km) Guesthouse
Hotel Areca
(1.6 mi / 2.6 km) Upscale hotel.
ibis budget Alicante
(2.8 mi / 4.5 km) Budget hotel.
ibis Hotel Alicante
(2.9 mi / 4.7 km) Mid-range hotel.
None of these hotels is connected to the passenger terminal. Check transportation arrangements before booking, particularly for late-night arrivals or early-morning departures.
Airport Lounges with Sleep Facilities
Costa Blanca VIP Lounge
Terminal, Airside, Floor 1, Boarding Area
Hours: 4:00 AM – 11:00 PM
The Costa Blanca VIP Lounge has a designated rest area, along with seating, refreshments and WiFi. It may be useful if you want somewhere to sit and rest before an early flight or during a daytime layover. However, the lounge does not offer private sleeping rooms or sleep pods, and the airport does not specify whether the rest area has recliners. Access is generally limited to three hours immediately before departure, so it is not an overnight sleeping option.
For admission details and other lounge information, see our Alicante Airport Guide.
Safety & Security
Experiences at Alicante are mixed. Some travellers have felt safe spending the night among other passengers, while others have been uncomfortable with people approaching them or with the behaviour of airport staff. In February 2023, a solo female traveller described repeated unwanted approaches while trying to sleep in the arrivals hall. She eventually moved to departures, where she felt safer. A June 2025 traveller also mentioned seeing people who made her uneasy, although she reported no direct problems and described her interaction with airport security as positive.
Other reviews mention rude or intimidating staff during security screening, although these complaints are not necessarily related to overnight sleeping. If you’re sleeping alone, consider choosing a spot near other travellers rather than an isolated corner. Keep your valuables secured and your bags close. If someone makes you uncomfortable, move to a busier area or speak to airport security. Security may also ask to see your boarding pass, so keep it accessible.
